This printer was the model released to try and compete with the Canon S800. It does that and more...
~QUICK OUTLINE~ The photo 890 is designed for printing excellent quality photos up to an A4 size. It uses Micro Piezo ink jet with 48 nozzles for monochrome printing and 240 nozzles for colour printing. If that was as much use as blah blah blah to you then in simple terms it does some very fine detailed pictures up to a resolution of 2880x720. Another great thing for this printer is it can do a borderless picture, this just means it will print right up to the edge of the paper, creating a real proffesional quality look perfect for framing and an easy photo substitue.
~INSTALLATION~ The insallation is almost a beauty in itself, im not trying to sell it to you but, one of the Photo 890's most ergonomic features is its ease of installation. It requires two ink cartridges. Both are an easy click fit into place. The best part of this is its a straight forward colour cartridge and black cartridge, here as some printers, which share the complexity of colour as this one, have all the coloured inks in different cartridges. The disadvantage of this however is the need to replace the whole colour cartridge if only one colour dries up!
Then it comes to connecting the printer. It really couldnt be easier. It can be connected via USB (the easiest, i hope all printers end up being able to connect like this) or via the normal screw in at the back method. When you turn on the computer it should, if you have a recent windows, recognise new hardware and start instal procedure. This is straight forward and it even tells you when to put the epson provided Cd into the drive. Nice and easy. If it doesnt come up staright away don't fear, just put the Cd in the drive and it will either start on its own or you will have to click "run" on the start up menu.
The bit i most like about the installation, thught this is on offer with many modern printers, is that if you have a recent version of windows you don't require the Cd to instal it. This means if you are lending it to someone or taking it to a different office its no hassel to get it up and running.
~PERFORMANCE~ The performance of this printer is what has come to be expected of Epson. It prints out graphs and pictures on normal paper at a very high quality and on photo paper it really excells itself, creating literally photo quality prints.
The print quality of pictures and photos is what sets the printer aside, if you want a printer to do that then this is perfect. It has an even distribution of colour and is very clean with its black lining.
Text printing is the weakness of this printer, anything below 8pt isn't really recomended. I would suggest that people who buy this printer have the purpose of either general use or photoprinting. J.K.Rowling i would invest in a printer that was more adept to text printing, however for everyday joe's like me this printer is fine. On a normal 12pt or higher it must be noted there is little or no trouble with text printing.
Speed is very much in your hands, on photo quality print leaning on quality over speed its quite slow however if you need to quickly run something off then its more than capable of that too.
The Photo 890 is also very quiet for an injet printer, it creates almost no disturbance at all.

In conclusion the 890 is a standard above the rest with its photo printing. Its text print is of an acceptable standard and to me it seems you get alot of printer for you money.
With the printer comes an extensive booklet on use but if thats not enough then it also provides you with relevent phone numbers and web sites.

...going. One feature of the Epson drivers is that when the printer is printing, a window pops up in the corner of your screen, showing time-left, printer status, and remaining ink in each cartridge - This serves as a handy reminder of the need to buy more ink.
Also with this printer comes a sampler CD with high-res images to test your printer on, and a copy of Adobe Photo Deluxe v3. I haven't played with them yet though.

Advantages: Excellant quality for photos and graphics. Very easy to set up and use Disadvantages: Ink goes down quite quickly.
The Epson Stylus Photo 890 is an excellent printer for those who are looking for quality printouts for photo’s and presentations.
For photo’s from Digital Cameras, scanned pics or even photo’s taken from webcams, the quality of the print is outstanding!

There is one disadvantage and that the inks do go down quite quickly which is why I mentioned above it’s not really suitable for mass printing. However I have managed to print out some booklets that were 65 pages long. 6 in total and half the ink was used. But the quality more than makes up for the rapidly diminishing ink, if ...

...ive found one with the Epson Photo 890.
Features
Unlike "normal" inkjet printers , this photo printer uses a 5 colour cartridge and a black one, whereas most printers use a 3 colour cartridge and a black one. This does'nt sound like a lot, but it actually gives you much better colour definition, especially on skin tones, and areas where you find lots of very similar colours.
It has two different connections, both parallel (for the older computers) ... ...would be more expensive. Again, Epson have surprised us all with the very good cartridge prices. The colour one costs about £14, and the black £12. These are high street prices for original epson cartridges, and will gove around 400 standard prints (standard assumes 5% black text i.e. a page of text, and a picture or 2). If however you start printing full A4 pages of photos, then the cartridge life is going to drop dramatically to more like 50 or ...

Advantages: Excellent photo quality Disadvantages: No USB cable
I bought my new EpsonStylusPhoto R800 in December last year, shortly before Christmas. Kind of present for myself! It was replacement for my old photo printer, as the name suggests - another Epson - StylusPhoto890. It was a great printer, reliable, durable, making great quality prints until the day?
My promise to myself was to get another Epson printer as I knew the maker and loved quality of its printers and other "photo products". I own photo quality scanner by Epson - another great piece of equipment.
I ordered my new printer over the internet, as it was December had to wait 2 weeks for delivery due to big demand for this model.
Unpacking isn't difficult and rather exiting, the box contains:
Printer unit;
Power cord;
8 ink cartridges;
Setup guide;
CD with software;
And some ...
