I purchased this printer as a replacement for my Epson stylus c62. having had my printer for a couple of years, it was reliable and easy to use I had no problems in choosing another Epson printer. I bought a new digital camera so I needed something that was going to do a really good job with my photos. I choose the R200 as I was impressed with the quality of the prints that were used as example, also all the features of being able to print directly onto cd etc. The separate ink tanks was a great idea, as having already owned an Epson printer I was well aware of the costs involved in replacement inks and even though the separate ink tanks are quite expensive I would have imagined I would not have had to do it as often. I eagerly got the printer home and set it up, the instructions were really good and it was very easy to install. I charged up the ink and followed all instructions and then printed a photo. I was very disappointed. the first picture was very posterised and terrible quality, so I looked at the settings and changed them printed another photo and the quality was still really bad. I was scratching my head a little, I had not ever had problems before so why now? So I ran the head alignment, printed another picture, still really bad, then the head cleaner, still really bad, then changed the settings again, STILL really bad! By this time I was getting very annoyed with the printer I had used half the ink tanks by this time and I was still scratching my head. eventually I realised the printers software was reverting back to factory settings each time before I printed a photo. so I thought maybe there was a problem with the printer software installation, so I removed the program and re-installed the printer again. I was really hopeful I had cracked it by this time and very annoyed I had gone through half my ink tank, but wanted to persevere, I printed off another 3 photos and I still could not stop the software from reverting back to factory settings. I had had enough so I took the printer back with the photos I had printed off and the shop were very good and gave me my money back and im afraid then I went totally off Epson and choose the cannon pixima which was the best decision I had made.

Advantages: Well priced, looks good, excellent photo prints, easy CD/DVD printing Disadvantages: Test printing could be better, empty ink cartridge problem (see review)

Advantages: excellent quality - perfect printing on most media including glossy Disadvantages: too expensive (priced the same as individuals) no savings for buying bulk
