Advantages: Price, Quality, ease of use, gives you more control over pictures Disadvantages: If just just want to print normal photos, still cheaper to use a photo shop

In my opinion, this Epson Stylus Photo R285 is the best photo printer that I have experienced (My friends have different ones, but I feel this one has just that extra bit of quality for the price)
As long as you dont skimp on getting cartridges and photo quality paper, you cant really go wrong, believe me I am one very happy owner! ... more

Thankfully my partner had been listening to me when I had been dropping hints, and already, even though Ive only had it since christmas I have been extremly pleased with the quality and speed of the printer.
You have to be a bit careful when getting a product like a printer, that you use the right ink cartridges and obviously if you want the best result you have to invest in decent quality printing paper, because if you use bog standard paper, however good the printer is, you will not get the best end result. I wanted quality, so got some proper photo quality printing paper, and the photos are outstanding!
I am not totally sure about the economy of using the product, as prices at photo shops have been geting better, meaning uunless there is a reduced price in the ink and photo paper, it will always be a bit more expensive to have your own photo printer, but in my opinion it opens the doors for a lot of opportunities, you have an open canvas, you dont only have to use the photo that you have taken as "a photo", but you can (using a photoshop style program) get a lot more out of one photo than if you took it to a photo shop!

Advantages: Perfect CD printing, Photo paper printing and normal paper printer quality! Disadvantages: Large in size and has a few problems in CD printing (as explained in main review)
...ink being not even geniune Epson Ink, was perfect and high quality. The problems that i had was after i set everything up, and was about to test print my first few CDs, the printer said something was blocking the printer head. I had to restart the printer several times, and restart the computer 2 times to get it back to working/printing condition. What i learned was that when you want to print on CDs, you turn on the printer, and wait until it has ... ...ebay, and really it does not affect image quality as i have been using Epson for years and never bought genuine epson branded ink. Plus you can save a lot by buying Epson (in particular R285) because you can buy a CISS system for it reducing your printing costs significantly!!! ...

Advantages: excellent all round while working Disadvantages: Subject to ink problems but Ok with insurance
The Epson Sylus Photo R285 is an excellent printer while it is working. In 12 months I have had two of these printers and both have have had the same fault, that being the sudden inability to recognise full ink cartridges and mule like refusing to budge in any direction.This problem occurs about 2-3 months into its use and seems to be brought on by changing one cartridge. Technical support recognise that there is a fault with apparently no remedy. ...

I am on my third R285 photo printer all have the same faults, the worse fault being the photo paper jambs at the start and finish of the printing process it also refuses to accept genuine epson cartridges when it is time to change one, and it gets frustrating as you manage it to accept one cartridge another one is refused saying they are empty when they are actually full. It prints text on plain paper fast and faultlessly but this is no good when it ruins your photo,s by jamming and smearing black ink. I am now ready to get my fourth on warranty but I do not really want another the older versions R200 and R220,s where better. ...

Bought this printer after my first Epson C62 which i used three years. The new Epson R285 printer has some more advanced features which i was looking for esp: CD & DVD printing and high quality photo printing with 6 ink cartridges. Got it for £48 from Valueshop. ...printers the best results come with using the best photo paper, and amazingly this printer was bundled with a pack of 7x5 Epson Premium Glossy paper. I tend to use this printer for making A4 size copies of select photos. It really does justice to high resolution imagery. ...
