I’d like to share this Epson printer with you. It is well worth the investment if you want high quality prints with superb colour.
• The printer is able to provide ‘borderless’ prints although in reality the A4 and over prints actually have a 2 mm border approx which isn’t bad at all. It gives true borderless prints on papers 4" x 6", 5" x 7", and 8" x 10" in size • The maximum paper size it takes is 215.9 mm x 355.6 mm ( classed as legal : A4 is 210 x 297 mm) It will actually print 215.9 mm paper up to a length of 1117.6 mm (44 inches ) which means you can create panoramas or banners , obviously they don’t need to be that long. It handles all types of paper including transparencies, Prints directly on inkjet printable CDs and DVDs and will print onto both 4-inch and 8.3-inch continuous roll papers. It will also print onto heavyweight papers and quite thick card. • It crams in a massive 5760 x 1440 dpi, each ink dot is tiny (1.5-Pico litre )allowing for more each inch compared to other printers and this gives you gives you amazing clarity and incredible detail,. • It has an 8-colour pigment ink system: cyan, magenta yellow, as usual but also red and blue instead of light cyan and light magenta thus expanding the colour range. It has 2 black inks a matt and a photo-black and a gloss optimiser (to give uniform glossiness all over the print field including the blacks.) The overall effect gives more natural skin tones and a wide color range designed specifically for photography. All of the inks are in individual cartridges for economy • It is very fast and very quiet (unless its not on a flat surface) considering the quality with which it prints and the dots per inch it is a very speedy machine even on highest quality settings • It has both hi-speed USB 2.0 and firewire connections. I haven’t used the firewire connection so I can’t vouch for that ( the inks are apparently fade resistant over 100 years (both matte and glossy media surfaces) but I cant vouch for that either !) • It comes with a selection of software including Epson Print CD Software and PRINT Image Matching II Plug-In for Adobe Photoshop 6.0, 7.0 and Elements (all titles are PC and Macintosh compatible, P.I.M. - and Exif Print-enabled). It manages colour with various ways: EPSON Standard, EPSON Vivid Colour and ICM or ColorSync colour management using ICC profiles • The R800 is well built and neither looks or feels cheap , it is straightforward to set up and use
Manufacturer’s inks are never the cheapest option but the quality means they are worth buying for the high quality dpi and the amazing colour range(it really deals as well with subtle colours as it does with vibrant ones. )To ink keep costs down I remove the Epson cartridges when im not printing photos or high quality colour work, reseal them, wrap them in cling film and seal them in a plastic baggie. I have a cheap continuous ink system for every day use. I just do a head clean when I put the Epson’s back in.
It is worth properly calibrating you PC monitor with this printer. The only reason your prints won’t turn out as you expect is because the monitor doesn’t truly show the image as it is. Most of us don’t bother calibrating a monitor and for most things it isn’t necessary but this printer deserves it. If you want to check your monitor calibration there are several online sites e.g. http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html
by the way Epson's support is great and they don't make you feel a total twit when the problem turns out to be yours and not the printers

Advantages: when it works the results can be stunning, photographic quality prints. Prints onto CDs / DVDs Disadvantages: Extortionate cost of Ink cartridges which CONSTANTLY run out! Heads clog rendering the printer useless.
