INTRODUCTION: First off these are guitar strings for electric guitars, acoustic guitars ( that are amplified to become electoacoustics with similar circuitry as electric guitars) But not classical guitars, with Nylon strings :-) As with all products these days, a review on just plain ... Ernie Ball Strings.

Advantages: Great well known strings.
Disadvantages: Suck with tone towards the end of their life.

...on just plain old " Ernie Ball Strings " is very wide and open ! So I will be basing mine on use with the following products only.

Nickel ( not the brighter / treble accenting steel ones !!! ) wound electric guitar strings

"SUPER SLINKY" ( "9's " / "9-42" )
9, 11, 16, 24, 32, 42.

"REGULAR SLINKY" ( "10's " / "10-46" )
...
..."SLINKY TOP HEAVY BOTTOM" ( "10-52" )
10, 13, 17, 30, 42, 52.

EXPLAINATION TIME :
==================

Right not a lot of that above will mean much to non-guitarists, or beginners so I will now explain :-) ( Thank god I hear you cry! )

The " SLINKY " thing is just part of the product name. For the names such as " 10's " are the guitarists slang for what ... more

How easy is it to find?

Durability

Value for money

Ernie Ball and his strings

Advantages: Sound great...
Disadvantages: For a few hours

I have always chosen Ernie Ball strings for the simple reason that they seem to be the most popular, they are usually cheap and they have those lovely day-glo packets (yes I'm that shallow). I have always thought that these were the best strings available through what people have told me and their hefty marketing, so I never before questioned their superiority, accepting them as the best you could buy. I was wrong however. In my narrow-mindedness ...
...strings, as there were no Ernie Balls left in the shop. Where these strings original tone was not as good as the Ernie Balls', it stayed bright for much longer. This is probably due to the fact that the strings I did buy came in an air-sealed package, whereas the Ernie Balls only come in seperate paper pockets. Their life span is therefore probably hindered by storage and condensation etc. The Ernie Ball's strings are a good make, they provide good ...

Review of Ernie Ball Guitar strings

Possibly the most popular strings ever.

Advantages: Good Sound, Long lasting
Disadvantages: Maybe prone to rust

Ernie Ball are probably the most well known manufacturers of guitar strings, walk into any good music shop and you will almost certainly see a few different gauges of Ernie Ball Slinkys. The Ernie Ball Slinky range of guitar stings offer many different gauges, from the standard 9-42 or 10 -46 setups to some extremely bottom heavy 9-54's. If you open up a pack of Ernie Balls there is a list of many famous guitarists who use Ernie Balls. The list is ...
...I have been using Ernie Balls for a few years now and have found them to be longer lasting than any other brand I have tried - some people recommend changing strings every 4 weeks, or even less, but I find with Ernie balls I can two or three times as long as this and still get good tone from my guitar. Ernie Balls are also reasonably priced, your average guitar shop will sell these at around the £5 mark and you can get them slightly cheaper online, ...

Review of Ernie Ball Guitar strings

Being popular doesnt make them the best

Advantages: Cheap, good value
Disadvantages: not the best tone

Ernie Ball strings were the first strings i ever bought. Why? Because those were the only make of strings i knew when i was a kid, coz a friend used them, and he used them coz he knew someone else that used em, and so on. Ernie Ball make good strings dont get me wrong, but there not the best. There are so many different sets out there, and even within brands like ernie ball you may find you like one set, but dislike another. (eg: i would buy a set ...
...suite the way you play. If like me you find Ernie Ball strings a bit twangy then maybe you can try another brand such as D'Addario. in a nutshell: they are as good as any other brand, but it's mainly down to your playing style and taste. ...

Strings for a punk rocker and more

Advantages: long lasting, great sound
Disadvantages: none that i have found

Ernie Ball strings are the only guitar strings in my book. I have played Punk for 8 years and these are the only strings that can take the abuse I give without snapping or sounding like a cat in a microwave. I have tried every other kind of string out there and these totally wipe the fretboad with them. Take my word for it, with all the different gauges E.B. has, there's something for everyone. Give them a chance & you'll agree. They last long, sound ...

Bend them like Ernie - They've got balls

Advantages: lightweight, bend easily sound good
Disadvantages: not as loud as heavy strings

as they were in 1975 and I needed to start training them again. My (at the time) new guitar had some very ropey strings on it and I soon found myself at a local music store to find out if I could still buy Ernie Ball strings, and if they were still as good as they were. The good news is that you can! Not only that but they are still the same quality and even have the same packaging, I recognised them as soon as I entered the shop. They have gone up a bit in price in the last thirty years but not drastically so. I think they were £2.50 a set in 1975, the last ones I bought, curiously enough from a newsagent in Swanage, were £4. Big music shops charge from £4.50- £6.95. Because they are well made and well polished fret wear is kept to a minimum. After a few years of playing with heavy weight strings you may find that your frets ...

Review of Ernie Ball Super Slinky Electric Guitar Strings

Cheap and cheerful but better quality tone and intonation around

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, surprisingly long lasting
Disadvantages: Thin, shrill sounding, other brands offer better intonation and better quality tone

After performing at over 1200 gigs, I have had alot of experience at playing with many different brands of strings. Super Slinky are always my third choice of strings because, in my opinion they do not offer that mid range depth to achieve that big, fat sound I need for playing mainly Rock music. There longevity however is surprisingly good and they have lasted 4 gigs worth playing two hour sets at a time. I have found that other brands offer better intonation, more sustain and a much richer tone. The super Slinky strings can be very thin sounding especially on my Fender Strat. To summarize though, Super Slinky strings in my opinion are ample quality strings for your typical bedroom player, they are cheap and cheerful and cater well for those who are not too serious about there playing. Given that the longevity of the strings are ...

Review of Ernie Ball Super Slinky Electric Guitar Strings

Keep your G String shiny

Advantages: prolongs the life and tone of your strings
Disadvantages: slight oily feel at first

So What is Fast Fret? It is a product intended to prolong the life of metal instrument strings. So What's the problem? When you play a musical instrument that involves touching the strings the oils and contaminants in your fingers transfers to the strings, causing them to corrode. What are the effects? The string will start to sound and look dull. The shiny finish of your Ernie Ball Super Slinky guitar strings will turn black, the sound will lose its ring and will not sound very exciting. At this point it is usual to change the strings, which is not terribly difficult but leaves you with a period of time to get through before the strings bed in and start to play properly. If you shop around you can buy new strings quite cheaply, my least deal on eBay secured my four sets of strings for £10. Nevertheless I saw this ...
