As promised, here is the Ibiza Hippie review, which is a continuation (kind of) of my Escada Sexy Graffiti op.
Every year Escada brings out a different perfume in an abstract heart-shaped bottle with a ribbed lid. And I have a bit of an obsession with them. So much so, that my trusted bottle of Gucci Envy has sat unused for months.
In previous years there's been the green bottle of 'Tropical Punch', last years pink 'Sexy Graffiti' (a limited edition, goddamit, and one of my favourite scents) and now for 2003 comes Ibiza Hippie. I (being the naughy little scamp I am) managed to get hold of a bottle of this in December (ask no questions..) and have been attempting to save it for Summer ever since. But the pull is too much to bear. I must spritz, I owe it to ciao, as this is the first review ;)
The packaging, for those who accidentally scrolled past the picture up there, is a red and blue gradient glass bottle, topped with a silver rim with the escada logo embossed into it, and a red plastic top. This bottle in turn comes inside a white box with a lace-up denim print and red roses / tattoos on it. I suppose this is supposed to evoke the idea of an Ibizan Hippie. It reminds me of Britney Spears. Perhaps not what they were going for, but never mind.
My bottle is 50ml, though there are other sizes available, both smaller and larger, depending on what your wallet allows. The 50ml size retails at around £30, depending on where you buy it (get it duty free much cheaper). It lasts a long time though - 50ml of Eau De Toilette is a lot.
A nice generous spritz from the pump and the initial hit is of rich forest fruits, something vaguely resembling apples, and strong-scented flowers. Don't be mislead off by the word 'hippie' in the title. This isn't some heavy sandalwood and marijuana scented product. It's young and funky and fruity.
Luckily for me, it has a resemblance to the previous Escada release, Sexy Graffiti, which I loved. It's not exactly the same, but it's along the same lines. Fruity and tangy with floral overtones. I don't like flowery fragrances, but I did like Sexy Graffiti. That was more citrussy and 'sexy', and the main fruit was rasberries. This one is more 'fun' and floral, with a base of blackberries. It's a very young scent, and probably quite an acquired taste. You'd imagine with blackberries in it, it might be more of a heavy, winter scent, but with a name like Ibiza Hippy, you can tell it's one for the Summertime. Think fruit picking next to a cottage garden, and you're close to the scent of this baby!
Lasting power is amazing. It can be overpowering at first, so give it ten or fifteen minutes to settle down and get used to your skin. This is one of those scents that smells different on different people, so while it suits me, on my mother it just smells cheap (she's a Chanel #5 lady - which reeks on me!) so definitely try before you buy, and give yourself an hour before you decide.
If you like young, fresh, quite strong, fruity fragrances, this one is definitely for you. I love the fact that I can layer it over my fruity shower products (it goes perfectly over 'Temptation' soap from Lush) without it clashing. That's always a bonus, because I hate having to forego my other scented products just because I'm wearing perfume.
Now get me to Ibiza, please...!

Chic, happy, wild, crazy, energetic, excessive, and trendy. Ibiza is an island off the more
coast of Spain that is "the place" for the party jet-set crowd. Inspired by the spring-summer fashions of Escada, Ibiza Hippie captures the moment with a delicious whirl of flowers and summer fruits. Notes include Litchi, Pear, Blackberry, Cranberry, Water Hyacinth, Blue Freesia, Blond Sandalwood, Amber, Passion Flower, Musk.
