This may seem strange given that monkey island is traditionally a 2D point and click game, but its still the same old monkey island.
This game is the 4th in the series and its probably the 2nd best, becuase Monkey Island 2 is still the best in my eyes. Anyway the story is, Guybrush Threepwood and Eiaine Threepwood(formely Elaine Marley), are now husband and wife. They have been on their honeymoon, sailing the seven seas, but when they return things are very different. Elaine and Guybrush have been declared dead and Elaine has lost her position as govener of their home town Melee Island! It has been declared that there is goin to be a re-election and Elaine must declare herself alive (well thats guybrushes job)and she must re-run for the goveners status! So Guybrush embarks on a adventure to help Elaine and of course get caught up in many other piratey activeties.
One of the games main features that was a nice touch was insult sword fighting! Now there is insult sword fighting, and insult arm wrestling along with many other sub-games. The game hasn't lost any of its pirateyness and certainly reatains the monkey island humour. With this game being an adventure game in kind of the same style as its predessesors there is still alot of finding items and taking them to certain locations, which caa be repetitive. Okay so its repetitive but this is still fun to do, Because you are dying to see what happens next, and who you will encounter. The game has quite a few humourus cut scenes and some exceptionally funny characters like Herman Toothrot the monkey island hermit. All in all the game is very big, maybe around 15-20 hours of gameplay, sometime more because you really can get stuck for ages, this game is a head scratcher!
The only flaws with this game is the camera is fixed in certain position, so when you reach a certain point the camera angle changes. This is very much like grim fandango, this can lead to you running in a certain direction, then the camera changes position and can sometimes back track if you keep the analouge stick in the direction you were going. This can be annoying but its one of those little niggles that most people won't even care about. The Locations in this game look absolutly brilliant, they are very colourful and bright. But the characters could be better, they are colourful and bright, they are quite detailed, but they could be better considering what the PS2 is capable of. Still that said this game is a great adventure game.
If you have ever experienced any of the Monkay Island games, you will probably be hooked (har har hooked, pirate oh well), if you haven't played Monkey Isalnd before and you need a new PS2 game then get this! If you have a PC i also recommend that you invest in some of the monkey island games, it would be a shame to miss out on what is possibly the best adventure game series ever!

...to borrow a copy of Escape from Monkey Island, I grabbed at it with both hands.
I didn’t realize there was a PS2 version, but luckily for me this is the format it arrived to me in, as pointing and clicking with a mouse can get a bit wrist numbing after a while.

I must begin by stating once again, as aformentioned in my Twisted Metal review, I am not much for video games....at all. However, my room mate had rented this game a few weeks back and after getting a bit tipsy off of some pineapple voldka I finally gave into his insistent begs for me to try it.
Now, while drunk it wasn't much, due to the fact I couldn't quite figure out how to work the controller, but I came back to it the following day, and behold, ... ...in the pirate days and you play the main character, Guybrush Threepwood, who everyone more or less looks at as a rather failing and sadly attempt to be a pirate. He is married to the governer of his home island, Elaine Marley. Anyone who is crossed with this information laughs hysterically at him in disbelief. The game is completely filled with humor. From the man who sells pirate prostheses, and you hear stories to get some free ones, then dig through ...

Advantages: Comedy storyline, Nice bright graphics, Insult Arm wrestling, Great Voice acting Disadvantages: Puzzles can be a bit complex/weird, Movement of character takes a little getting used too.
The story is as follows, are you sitting comfortably? You play Guybrush Threepwood a rather pathetic pirate who is married to Elaine Marley Threepwood a swash buckling heroin of Hollywood proportions. The story starts straight after the Curse of Monkey Island so you have just come back to Melee Island and because you have been away so long the arch rival politician Charles L Charles has declared Elaine dead and thus himself the new Governor of the ... ...who is coming in and buying up the whole island to turn it into a tourist resort. Your job should you decide to accept it is to find the land owner, save the island and get Elaine reinstated. Simple!
The graphics are really good, not earth shattering but they are nice, bright and cartoon like (hey i'm a kid at heart!). The movement of the character is also good (a lot better than trying to make Tanner run from car to car in Driver 2!). However the ...

...over the past few weeks, Escape from Monkey Island has been really exciting, It has gripped me so much that I really want to know what will happen next (I will not cheat and look up in a guide) and you won't be able to belive some of the major surprises in store! Graphics - 9 : Lucasarts took a huge leap this time round, from 2D to fully 3D. The characters we once knew in previous games are in glorious, if not blocky 3D graphics. The characters are ... ...and Music - 8 : Escape from Monkey Island has voice acting, which The Curse of Monkey Island also had. The same voice actors are back, acting as their characters, plus there are new actors, who are greeted with open hands. My two personal favourite voice actors are Dominic Armato, who plays Guybrush, and has one of the best voices in the world and Earl Boen, who plays LeChuck.
