Escape From Monkey Island (PS2) Escape From Monkey Island (PS2)
In a world dominated by grim and gritty console games, it's difficult to find a madcap ... more
adventure about the triumphs of a goofball
would-be pirate. Yet that's exactly what we have
in Escape from Monkey Island. This PC port follows
the latest misadventures of Guybrush Threepwood as
he tries to make sense of his ridiculous world;
the PC-style gameplay consists of conversing,
exploring, and lots of puzzle-solving; gamers who
lack patience or who loathe Myst-like puzzles
might want to skip this game, but they'll be
missing out on one of the most unique console
experiences on the market.  The game's forte is
clearly its style. Its dialogue, while sometimes
lengthy, is often witty and boisterously
entertaining. Its characters and environments are
bright and vibrant. Its puzzles--in which you
often match wacky objects in bizarre
situations--are straight out of a Looney Tunes
cartoon. Few games can match Escape from Monkey
Island's humour, and those that can aren't on the
PlayStation 2.  Although the character designers
and animators were able to achieve a playful
style, some of the series' personality was lost in
the translation from 2-D sprite-based graphics to
3-D polygons. Still, there's really nothing else
like it on the PS2. Gamers looking for something
different, or wanting to take a break from saving
the world from cataclysmic menaces, should give
this game a shot. --Raymond M. Padilla

The Monkey Island tales jumped onto our screens a long time ago and charmed us with ... more
intriguing storylines and chirpy dialogue. Now
after a wait that seems like an eternity, Guybrush
Threepwood and his trusty band of friends are back
in the fourth instalment, Escape from Monkey
Island. Carrying on where Curse of Monkey Island
left off, Escape from Monkey Island starts with
Guybrush and his now-wife Elaine
Marley-Threepwood, The Governor of the
Tri-islands, returning back to the peaceful island
of Mêlée, only to find that not all is what it
seems, and while they have been battling the high
seas, the evil villain Charles L Charles has
plotted to take over the islands. All sounds
hectic stuff, and you would be right in thinking
so, but Escape from Monkey Island is not about
being hectic, so sit back, take a sip of that tea
you've got next to the computer and let's take it
easy. For those not aware of the series, Monkey
Island is your average point-and-click game:
search around, ask some questions, pick up some
stuff, ask some more questions and so on and so
on, but where Escape from Monkey Island differs is
in the execution. With its superb 3-D
graphics--the others didn't feature in 3-D--that
lusciously depict the Tri-island area, the
graphics are the first thing that will catch you
eye. Couple this with a witty, clever and at times
wonderful script and you've got a game that will
have you chuckling out loud as Guybrush spins
puns, jokes and insults aplenty. If you are a fan
of the point-and-click genre, or the Monkey Island
series for that matter, then this is definitely
going to be your cup of tea with intriguing
challenges and humour you have come to appreciate
from a game like this. If, however, like a lot of
people, you are wary of point-and-click games,
this is the perfect starting point, with the game
slowly easing you into the wonderful world that is

Monkey Madness on your PS2 at last
Review of Escape from Monkey Island (PS2) by Doobster

Advantages: Its monkey isalnd enough said
Disadvantages: NONE

...so pleased to see that Escape From Monkey Island was going to be released on PS2 (because its the best adventure game series ever)! Well now the greatest Adventure game series has hit PS2 and my god is it good! This time around its all in 3D, theres no point and click, you use the PS2's analouge sticks to move the main character (Guybrush Threepwood, oh yeah he's a mighty pirate) around. This may seem strange given that monkey island is traditionally ...
...same old monkey island. This game is the 4th in the series and its probably the 2nd best, becuase Monkey Island 2 is still the best in my eyes. Anyway the story is, Guybrush Threepwood and Eiaine Threepwood(formely Elaine Marley), are now husband and wife. They have been on their honeymoon, sailing the seven seas, but when they return things are very different. Elaine and Guybrush have been declared dead and Elaine has lost her position as govener ... Monkeying around
Review of Escape from Monkey Island (PS2) by yukkibear

Advantages: great game, cheap
Disadvantages: cheesy jokes

...to borrow a copy of Escape from Monkey Island, I grabbed at it with both hands. I didn’t realize there was a PS2 version, but luckily for me this is the format it arrived to me in, as pointing and clicking with a mouse can get a bit wrist numbing after a while. *****MADE BY**** Escape from Monkey Island is made by Lucas Arts (also make a lot of Star Wars games for the PS2, PC and Xbox). Check them out at www.LucasArts.com. *****GAME BACKGROUND***** ...
...know weird name). There are three previous versions in the Monkey Island series (none of which I have played), but according to the book, Guybrush defeated the evil enemy (you know the one you always get) and married his sweetheart and sailed off into the sunset. So here he is, trying to find THE ULTIMATE INSULT. His beloved wife is the Governor of Melee Island where the game is set, and she is standing for re-election against the evil man Ghost ... Monkey of a game
Review of Escape from Monkey Island (PS2) by Zahirul

Advantages: Great innovation and originality
Disadvantages: Not ground-breaking

...one of life-s little leasures. Escape from Monkey Island gives you the chance to lay on the verbal pain, free from the fear of burly men breaking your face after you have asked them if they are suffering from elephantiasis of the ugly gland. Encounters that would in any other action game play out with explosives and tests of button mashing strength, here take the form of viscious slanging matches. Your rival disses you, then you choose the most ...
...of shooting action fool yu, Escape from Monkey Island looks set to be one of the PS2's most enjoyable adventures to date. There isstacks of top-quality dialogue in Monkey Island and the voic acting is spot on. Conversations can be lengthy theough, and teasing the next clue from the misfit you are chatting with isn't for impatient adventurers. The good thing is that the twisted humour that appears throughout the game is even funnier in these dialogue ... Read review

For godsakes Guybrush the Monkies stop the MONKIES
Review of Escape from Monkey Island (PS2) by raychille

Advantages: control, options, graphics, humor
Disadvantages: needs a lot of patience and wit

I must begin by stating once again, as aformentioned in my Twisted Metal review, I am not much for video games....at all. However, my room mate had rented this game a few weeks back and after getting a bit tipsy off of some pineapple voldka I finally gave into his insistent begs for me to try it. Now, while drunk it wasn't much, due to the fact I couldn't quite figure out how to work the controller, but I came back to it the following day, and behold, ...
...in the pirate days and you play the main character, Guybrush Threepwood, who everyone more or less looks at as a rather failing and sadly attempt to be a pirate. He is married to the governer of his home island, Elaine Marley. Anyone who is crossed with this information laughs hysterically at him in disbelief. The game is completely filled with humor. From the man who sells pirate prostheses, and you hear stories to get some free ones, then dig through ... Read review

Escape Fom Monkey Island-No thanks its nice here!
Review of Escape from Monkey Island (PS2) by josh_vernon

Advantages: Comedy storyline, Nice bright graphics, Insult Arm wrestling, Great Voice acting
Disadvantages: Puzzles can be a bit complex/weird, Movement of character takes a little getting used too.

The story is as follows, are you sitting comfortably? You play Guybrush Threepwood a rather pathetic pirate who is married to Elaine Marley Threepwood a swash buckling heroin of Hollywood proportions. The story starts straight after the Curse of Monkey Island so you have just come back to Melee Island and because you have been away so long the arch rival politician Charles L Charles has declared Elaine dead and thus himself the new Governor of the ...
...who is coming in and buying up the whole island to turn it into a tourist resort. Your job should you decide to accept it is to find the land owner, save the island and get Elaine reinstated. Simple! The graphics are really good, not earth shattering but they are nice, bright and cartoon like (hey i'm a kid at heart!). The movement of the character is also good (a lot better than trying to make Tanner run from car to car in Driver 2!). However the ... Read review
