Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

A corner of Milan in your kitchen

Advantages: Quick, simple, sturdy, stylish
Disadvantages: Can lose important 'bits' if not careful

So - I lost the whoosit for steaming the milk properly and now I only use the coffee making part, heating the milk up in the microwave. But, in the Gaggia's defence, I have had it for a long, long, time (5 years plus), moved house with it as well, hence the loss of the whoosit, and I still couldn\'t get through the day without the wonderful coffee it makes for me every morning. I could also replace the whoosit direct from Gaggia's site, but I have ...
...machine daily. It needs a good descale every now and then - I just use the same stuff you would use for a kettle, brew it through a few times and then rinse a lot, but I\'m pretty sure it came with some descaling instructions as well. Its also worth using filtered water to keep it happy, but that goes for every machine you can buy. If you are comparing this with the 'pod coffee' machines bear in mind how much you will use it and how much cheaper ...

Gaggia Baby Class Quality? I don't think so!!!!

Advantages: Looks Good
Disadvantages: Poor build quality/quality conrol

...died through overuse), With a Gaggia Baby Class Espresso machine. Machine 1 arrived, I followed the instructions to the letter turned on the machine to flush it through and had water coming through every part of the machine except where it was supposed to. One very wet kitchen work top, one very unhappy customer. This machine was returned and replaced with a second machine. Machine 2; This was plugged in and used, all seemed OK until I tuned on ...
...and squirted scalding hat water around the kitchen. Upon investigating the cause of this I also noted 3 dents to the stainless steel back plate on the machine, This machine was promptly returned and a replacement ordered. Machine 3; exactly the same problem as machine 1. This machine has been returned and a full refund requested. I Have now oredered another Delonghi. I have been extremely disappointed with the build quality of these machines as ...

Delonghi magnifica for serious coffee drinkers

Advantages: Heats up quickly. Takes coffee beans or ground coffee.
Disadvantages: A little noisy on automatic coffee grinding.

The machine does not do filter coffee. It grinds beans or you can use ground coffee. You cannot use instant, however with the cost of this machine one would not want to use instant! It makes a wonderful cup of coffee, or if you wish two at a time. The coffee is always hot. There are adjustments for coffee grinding strength and the amount of hot water used depending on size of cup. The arm for frothing the milk is superb and the milk gets really hot ...
...It has a light to let you know when it is time to descale the machine. The used coffee grouts drop into a container which is easy to remove and clean. A small light comes on when this container needs emptying. This machine is for serious coffee drinkers because it is quite expensive. Having had a similiar machine before I personally would only have the same again. The reason I needed a new one was the old was 20 years old and wasSwiss. The joy of ...

Rather disapointing.

Advantages: high quality coffee
Disadvantages: lacks the quality punch which compensates for that hole in your wallet...

please read this viewpoint if you are considering buying this machine. I bought this machine about 3 months ago, and regretfully, I really don't think its really worth the money. THE UPSIDES: It makes really great coffee using the high quality Nespresso capsules the Nespresso capsules offer a huge range of different coffee bean mixes: perfect for the coffee enthusiast or connoisseur. It has the capacity to make cappuccinos which is a rare ...
...relatively simple to operate and will last a while as long as you take care of it. THE DOWNSIDES: Its really badly overpriced! you buy the machine, but then you have to keep stocked up on the Nespresso controlled capsule monopoly, which is about £60 every time you buy about 150 capsules. If like me you and you family enjoy 2 or more coffees a day that reserve dwindles rather rapidly. The upside to this (yes there is one!) is that I believe the ...

Gaggia Baby Twin - jewel or junk?

Advantages: Small, neat, pretty, produces good coffee
Disadvantages: Poor quality control, impractical, unreliable, poor service

...owner, Magnoler Sandro, delivered to Gaggia UK 10.10.08 with cheque for £25 as requested by Gaggia UK with promise of a refund from Mr. Sandro. Returned 20.11.08. Mr. Sandro then refused to refund, unable to find my order despite me providing his Invoice No. Although making a great coffee, it is a pain to use. With hindsight, for the same price or less, I'd buy a "beans in one end", "coffee out the other" machine and unlikely a Gaggia. ...
