Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

My wonderful Francis Francis!

Advantages: Quick, easy to use and perfect coffee
Disadvantages: Milk frother doesn't detach for easy cleaning

I've had my X1 for about 6 years now and when it eventually goes wrong I wouldn't replace it with anything else. This is a fantastic machine and if you're an espresso drinker, then just about perfect. It comes with 3 different sized filters for Espresso, Ristretto and cafe creme. You can use either the coffee pod system where you buy a can of pre-prepared servings in a pod. Or more fiddly, but less expensive, your traditional kit using ground coffee, ...
...At the back of the machine is a water reservoir that hold about a litre of water. It's excellent at keeping the water temperature at around the perfect 97 degrees, although I've found if I forget to turn it off, after about an hour the temperature will rise by quite a bit. It only takes about 90 seconds to heat up to the right temperature too, and there are lights that come on and off aswell as a temperature gauge to let you know when it's good ...

Gaggia Event breaks down if you make too many capuccinos

Advantages: it does make coffee
Disadvantages: breaks down after a month of making cappuccinos

I purchased this machine a year ago. It is a bean to cup coffee machine This means that you pour water into one container and coffee beans into another, press a button on the front and out comes an Italian style expresso coffee. You can then use the machine to steam milk for a cappuccino. Although the intention of this review is to warn buyers who are hoping to regularly drink italian style capuccinos against buying this machine, I must also add ...
...very stong liquor type expressos. You can increase the strength of the coffee but not to the extent of some bars in Italy. As I said above, although the machine does produce good and reasonably strong coffee, mine has broken down 3 times in one year. I have contacted the Milan office who has been in touch with an official repairer and despite these repairs the same problem has recurred so I'm reasonably sure that the problem is not specific to my ...

AM I UNLUCKY OR WHAT?

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: If works no disadvantages

...always been a lover of Gaggia coffee machine, I bought the first one in Italy many years ago and since than I have gone on buying more sophisticated model until about four years ago I bought the Syncrony Digital. Been digital is very easy to operate, 3 programmable button to push according to the quantity of coffee wanted in the cups. Two levers adjust the grounding of the beans and the quantity of powder coffee. On the digital window is possible ...
...ruined more than previously until Gaggia decided to send us a complete new one. Fantastic! Yes! And it has been until, still under garantee, had the same problem of the first machine. We sended it back for repare and came back repared and not brocken in transit! Thank God! Fantastic? MMMMMMMMM Yes! And it has been until, no more under garantee, few weeks ago. refused, again, to make coffee using beans,(same problem) and this time has cost £108 to ...

The ultimate in fresh coffee makers!

Advantages: Fast, reliable and a fantastic brew
Disadvantages: Cheap look and feel

For coffee lovers, this is a dream machine. For a truly luxurious cup of coffee, this machine cannot be bettered. Those who claim that it's all in the bean are sadly mistaken - while the blend and roast are important, it's not what you've got, it's how you brew it. And this machine could brew for Britain. The integral water filter is a little on the small side - put differently, this machine guzzles more H2O than you'd expect from a non-plumbed machine ...
...The grinder is just the right size, and can be set for different strengths and lengths of grinding, thus satisfying those in it just for the taste right through to the true caffiene monsters. The volume output can also be adjusted, so whatever size your cup, it won't overflow. Once you've set it up, all it takes is the press of a button to deliver a perfect cup of coffee. For those unconverted to the wonder of the fresh bean, the ground coffee filter ...

A beautiful waste of space

Advantages: pretty, good coffee
Disadvantages: pain to clean, not really worth it!

...time. I chose the Dualit because its beautiful (undeniably) - it does look gorgeous on the work surface, and anyone who comes round seems to say "ooh, I wish I had one of those" - which subconciously as consumers is EXACTLY what you want to hear. The downside of that is that the visitor's next words are invariably "make me a coffee!"... and because you're still high on being the object of envy, you have no alternative than to adopt a fixed smile ...
...swearing at the further 15 minutes of cleaning the machine will need later on. In fairness, it makes very good coffee - not at the level of proper bean-to-cup machines like they use in coffee shops, but a pretty close second - especially if you use really high quality ingredients. But it's quite tricky to use, and took me around twenty cups to get to anything like decent espresso (that was a wired evening!). Once you've got the hang of it, it's ...
