Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

Coffee shop standard coffee at home!

Advantages: Easy to use, great cup of coffee
Disadvantages: You have to wash up yourself!

What a fantastic coffee pot this is! It's really easy to use and makes a really good cup of frothy coffee. All you have to do is fill the bottom compartment with water using the measuring cup supplied, fill the coffee compartment with ground coffee (my husband likes to use espresso to get a good strong flavour), then screw the top part back on, fill with milk and push down the button to create the pressure which froths the milk. My husband uses soya ...

espresso heaven

Advantages: easy to use, easy to clean, easy to buy
Disadvantages: remember not to let the pot sit on the heat once the coffee is through.

Simply the best: so straight forward and idiot proof. I also have a collection sitting at the back of my cooker even when I go through periods of coffee abstinence. Yes you will need to replace the rubber rings and yes, every five years or so the filter cup starts to get holes in it especially if you are a slob and leave it sitting around with old damp grounds or coffee in it. Best to clean it every time for longevity's sake - in an ideal world. ...
...reviewer except on how to make perfect froth. The best way by far that I have found is to use your old cafetiere - a glass one with a metal plunger works best. You must scald the milk and let it boil or you will not acheive the same fineness of foam Once the surface of the milk starts to get tiny bubbles draw off the heat. pour into the cafetiere and plunge vigourously through the whole of the milk. Once you get a head on it then just plunge into ...

Dont mock the Moka

Advantages: Delicious Coffee and aroma
Disadvantages: high caffine intake

For those of you that have used the cooker top version of this, and in fact also for this who haven't, this coffee machine is simplicity itself, as the name suggests Mocha easy. Simply unscrew, the coffee maker, and remove metal filter system, put in the base the desired amount of water needed, replace filter system, top with dry mocha coffee, available from most shopping outlets, screw the maker back together, and place on electrical stand and ...
...through a central tube, and then filtered back down through the coffee, which gives of a superb aroma in the process. Once boiling process is complete, simply pour into mocha style cups and enjoy. If you've never had a mocha coffee before, you will probably find about twice the amount of sugar is needed compared to your usual drink, as it can be quite a bitter experience, very nice if you add a touch of Whisky or Brandy, but if at all possible ...

A beautiful waste of space

Advantages: pretty, good coffee
Disadvantages: pain to clean, not really worth it!

...time. I chose the Dualit because its beautiful (undeniably) - it does look gorgeous on the work surface, and anyone who comes round seems to say "ooh, I wish I had one of those" - which subconciously as consumers is EXACTLY what you want to hear. The downside of that is that the visitor's next words are invariably "make me a coffee!"... and because you're still high on being the object of envy, you have no alternative than to adopt a fixed smile ...
...swearing at the further 15 minutes of cleaning the machine will need later on. In fairness, it makes very good coffee - not at the level of proper bean-to-cup machines like they use in coffee shops, but a pretty close second - especially if you use really high quality ingredients. But it's quite tricky to use, and took me around twenty cups to get to anything like decent espresso (that was a wired evening!). Once you've got the hang of it, it's ...

Gaggia Baby Class Quality? I don't think so!!!!

Advantages: Looks Good
Disadvantages: Poor build quality/quality conrol

...died through overuse), With a Gaggia Baby Class Espresso machine. Machine 1 arrived, I followed the instructions to the letter turned on the machine to flush it through and had water coming through every part of the machine except where it was supposed to. One very wet kitchen work top, one very unhappy customer. This machine was returned and replaced with a second machine. Machine 2; This was plugged in and used, all seemed OK until I tuned on ...

Upon investigating the cause of this I also noted 3 dents to the stainless steel back plate on the machine, This machine was promptly returned and a replacement ordered. Machine 3; exactly the same problem as machine 1. This machine has been returned and a full refund requested. I Have now oredered another Delonghi. I have been extremely disappointed with the build quality of these machines as ...
