Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

DeLonghi BAR caffe Treviso makes perfect Espresso and Cappuccino

Advantages: cheap, easy to use and clean, small, makes good coffee, not noisy
Disadvantages: none

...website I stumbled upon this DeLonghi Treviso BAR 14 Coffee Maker and I liked the price, £58.75. DeLonghi is a is a well known brand in Italy so I decided to give it a go. I must say, I didn’t expect much from this machine because it was the cheapest of the range and I read in one review on Ciao that the coffee came out without a crema. Well, I thought, at least it should be better than filtered coffee. I must say my expectations have been surpassed! ...
...suggest you to buy a small stainless steel jug to froth the milk easily. All in all, DeLonghi Treviso Coffee Maker is highly recommendable: relatively cheap, easy to use and clean, small, makes good coffee and it is not excessively noisy. I can’t think of any downsides with it. ...

The Gaggia Cubika cannot generate an espresso crema.

Advantages: Simple and easy to clean, apart from tank removal.
Disadvantages: No crema; difficult tank removal.

...clamped onto the machine. Gaggia even sent me a sample of their specially ground coffee and even that didn't work! Apparently, there used to be an extra device you could get which worked with the filter and guaranteed a crema but for some crazy reason they withdrew it claiming that it wasn't necessary. I doubt it's a problem for those of you that like cappucinos, lattes or americanos but the crema is essential in a neat espresso to avoid a bitter ...

Great Machine, shame about the environmental impact

Advantages: Great Coffee, good choice, fab hot chocolate!
Disadvantages: Pods cannot be recycled - lots of pods into landfill which is just wrong

You don't need me to wrtie a long review on the Dolce Gusto because everyone else has done a great job reviewing it here. And the majority of reviews are spot on. This machine is convenient, easy to use and actually does make, unusually for a machine like this, damn fine coffee. Costs are high, so be aware of that. 8 frothy cappucinos will set you back a good £3.50. Whilst that is slightly more than one cup of Starbucks, it is still quite expensive. ...
...have done nothing for the environment, as all the pods cannot be recycled and end up in landfill. I wrote to Nescafe about this as I could not believe that after serving 4 cups of coffee to friends I was shoving 8 pods in the bin. Their response was negative basically telling me that "due to the quality of the coffee and the way the pods are made, they cannot be recycled" and therefore advised me to just throw them away. In a world that is becoming ...

Excellento Expresso

...from our new expresso machine: Delonghi ECO 310 B / BK / W. It is a pump machine This belongs to my mum and dad. They're both mad coffee drinkers and so it really put a smile on their faces, when on Christmas day they received a joint present which was this expresso machine. They did and do, already own a coffee maker, although I have been told by both of them that this one is by far a much better and faster one, and a lot easier to use. In fact ...
...heard the name of before, DeLonghi isn't one of those brands you know well and know straight away whether you want to buy from it or not. I'm not sure that if we'd gone out to the shops to choose this coffee machine for ourselves that we would have chosen one from this particular company. But thats only because we've never tried any of their products before and don't know whether to trust them or not. After doing some research on the internet, this ...

My new obsession- Coffee!

Advantages: See Text
Disadvantages: See text

...coffee machine! Finding the Delonghi ECO 310 I had a look on Amazon for a Coffee machine with good feedback. I chose the Delonghi ECO 310; it was the only one I could find that was azure blue. (I wanted an azure-blue one because I really liked azure blue at the time.) It was £146.79, with an Ok saving of £3.20. When it came it looked stunning, a really pretty design, shiny and modern. It's just a shame I recently went off the colour, and had ...
...always do, I had trouble with the delivery. The delivery man came while I was painting my toenails (He was an hour early). I shuffled over to the door trying to walk with the toe separators in. I asked the man to hang on a second, he rudely rolled his eyes and dumped the box in my house and asked me to sign this electronic device he was holding. I didn't like his attitude, but I thought it would be easier if I just did it. I held the funny pen and ...
