Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

Krups yummy frothy coffee machine

Advantages: Posh coffee in your own home
Disadvantages: To get more pods you have to travel to London, or order via the internet.

This machine along with the wide variety of nespresso coffee pods available makes superb coffee AND you can get top notch frothy milk from the machine as well!! What more could you want???!!! Making the coffee is virtually mess free and there is only a little wiping up to do afterwards. The cup size is either espresso size, or 'lungo' size which is only a little bit bigger than an espresso, so you can easily drink several cups worth in one go if ...
...that nespresso, who make the pods for this machine, could perhaps work on as I find my coffee finishes before I am ready for it to finish if you know what I mean?! Anyway the different varieties available are diverse - from very strong, to very weak, and you can also get a couple of type of decaffeinated which also taste just as good even if you don't get the same caffeine 'hit' from them. The frother is high pressure and you can get top quality ...

Requiem for a bean

Advantages: quick, 2 perfect mugs of espresso or cappucino
Disadvantages: impossible to get hold of

...espresso and cappuccino The Dualit Espresso 968 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was a very good looking, compact and speedy machine taking only a few minutes to brew. Its squat black and chrome exterior covered a heart full of steam and it sat on my work surface taking up about the same room as my cat (31 x 32 x 37 cm) although at about 4 kgs quite a bit heavier! It would hold up to 1.5 litres of water, had a 15 bar pressure system and would happily ...
...these machines were marketed as Dualit they were actually made by Jura who also don’t have a comparative model. All of theirs are massive now and would be more at home in a café than my kitchen. My little Dualit was killed off, I suspect, by the Senseo and I’m not sure what to do now ...

A beautiful waste of space

Advantages: pretty, good coffee
Disadvantages: pain to clean, not really worth it!

...time. I chose the Dualit because its beautiful (undeniably) - it does look gorgeous on the work surface, and anyone who comes round seems to say "ooh, I wish I had one of those" - which subconciously as consumers is EXACTLY what you want to hear. The downside of that is that the visitor's next words are invariably "make me a coffee!"... and because you're still high on being the object of envy, you have no alternative than to adopt a fixed smile ...
...swearing at the further 15 minutes of cleaning the machine will need later on. In fairness, it makes very good coffee - not at the level of proper bean-to-cup machines like they use in coffee shops, but a pretty close second - especially if you use really high quality ingredients. But it's quite tricky to use, and took me around twenty cups to get to anything like decent espresso (that was a wired evening!). Once you've got the hang of it, it's ...

Gaggia Baby Class Quality? I don't think so!!!!

Advantages: Looks Good
Disadvantages: Poor build quality/quality conrol

...died through overuse), With a Gaggia Baby Class Espresso machine. Machine 1 arrived, I followed the instructions to the letter turned on the machine to flush it through and had water coming through every part of the machine except where it was supposed to. One very wet kitchen work top, one very unhappy customer. This machine was returned and replaced with a second machine. Machine 2; This was plugged in and used, all seemed OK until I tuned on ...
...and squirted scalding hat water around the kitchen. Upon investigating the cause of this I also noted 3 dents to the stainless steel back plate on the machine, This machine was promptly returned and a replacement ordered. Machine 3; exactly the same problem as machine 1. This machine has been returned and a full refund requested. I Have now oredered another Delonghi. I have been extremely disappointed with the build quality of these machines as ...

our little red coffee dog.

Advantages: easy to clean, quick
Disadvantages: expensive, and can only use nescafe pods no cheap alternative

NESCAFE KRUPS DOLCE GUSTO We have been married now for just over a year; as we already had everything in our flat when we got married the majority of our wedding presents came in the form of money or Argos vouchers, so we decided to treat ourselves to a Dolce Gusto coffee machine. The cost of the machines at £80 is quite expensive, so I think that you really have to think about this purchase before you make it, it’s not the sort of appliance that ...
...say the coffee machine was my wife’s choice because it was ‘cute’ !! I have to admit though that this machine is extremely stylish and does look very modern (it’s rather like a red robotic dog actually!!) WHAT DO YOU GET FOR YOUR MONEY? Inside the box, as well as the machine itself, you get a Cappuccino cup and saucer and a Latte Macchiato glass, sixteen capsules two each of Expresso, Caffé Lungo, Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino and Chococino. There ...
