Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

Isomac Giada. Not quite the £17 version my sister bought!!!

Advantages: Compact, easy to use, quick, easy clean, solid, reliable
Disadvantages: Price, self primer, steam knob.

This tiny espresso machine is quite something else. It weighs in at around 9 kilos due to its far superior innards compared to the like of the £17 cheapy my sister bought. Its solid brass 5oz capacity boiler makes an amazing difference. I can heat 12 oz of milk in a few minutes, my sister is steaming out of the ears well before her milk is!! It's a class piece of equipment and is part of my business, as a small caterer it's ample for me. It is stainless ...
...to water tank, can have a water softener inserted, has filters and a pressure guage. One or two cup coffee inserts (it directs coffee out of one or two nozzles depending on the insert), built in tamper, steam nozzle, cup warmer and easy clean drip tray. The knobs and switches are easy to use and if I was to complain about anything it's that the steamer knob doesn't have an on on or off arrow so can be a little worrying when you think you are turning ...

DeLonghi Treviso - By Hook Or By Crook, You WILL Last Three Years

Advantages: Inexpensive, makes good basic coffee
Disadvantages: Tiny tank capacity means filling it every time. A bit noisy

...Comet paying £70 for a DeLonghi Treviso, but before you all start checking and finding out that it should have cost £52, it did, before they tacked on the 3-year warranty. SO WHAT IS IT? The Treviso is a two-cup espresso machine. That is to say it can make two cups of coffee at a time, and in our household, that’s plenty, most of the time. Espresso machines pump high pressure (14 bars in this case – about 206 psi) hot water through a filter, ...
...the coffee is ‘expressed’ through the filter with all the speed of ….errrr…..an express train. Compared to a coffee percolator, where the hot water goes round and round picking up extra flavour on each pass, the espresso taste is more like a Rombout filter literally pumped up ‘on steroids’ as Jezza Clarkson is wont to say. Hence, its resulting flavour from a single pass tends more towards that of filter compared when compared to anything a ...

Could this be the one..??

Advantages: Compact, easy to use, excellent price, free grinder
Disadvantages: For this level of product, nothing really.

...consider that this is between £100 and £200 cheaper than my previous machines, I'm really impressed. There's also an offer on with Cuisinart at present - you can download a form from their website and mail in your receipt to get a free burr grinder. Very happy! ...

non working baby and non trustable merchant : italiankitchenaids

Advantages: I would have appreciated to test the machine
Disadvantages: I have been told gaggia often have those leaks issues

I bought a gaggia baby from an italian site during the summer. This site looks very professional and is pretending to be operating in many countries including UK. They delivered to me a machine that was not the right color and the pump was leaking , all the water was getting away from the bottom of the machine. I had to insist a lot to get a coupon and have the machine picked up by this company. It took several weeks . Then they promissed to deliver ...
...had once again to wait for one more month and they delivered the same initial machine to me , wrong color AND despite the "riparatto" mention written manually on the box , non working . I was fuming and asked for them to pick it back and give me a refund, they never answered . So I am now with a non working machine and they kept my money. AVOID THIS COMPANY : ITALIANKITCHENAIDS, wonderful sites , probably a single person in his garage , and really ...

Get the towels ready....

Advantages: Chrome finish looks fab. Good weight and quality. Would be great value if it was useable!
Disadvantages: Water water everywhere (and still no coffee)

I bought the DeLonghi Ec 270 for espresso, cappuccino etc and it looks and feels great. Bought from local outlet, not best price, just like to do that for after sales service. I loved the finish and weight. It made good coffee but right from the outset water leaked copiously from the reservoir seal and flooded the worktop. After a few such floodings I assumed it to be a one-off faulty machine. At this point I was glad I had bought locally. No trouble ...
...price.....and rendered 'unfit for purpose' by one dodgy seal. Potential buyers may be advised to check with DeLonghi first to see if it is a recognized problem, and if it has now been rectified. At this point I would have gone and made myself a nice cup of coffee.........sigh ...
