Coffee Machine

Whether you’re looking for a good Italian coffee or you just want the occasional hit of caffeine, coffee machines have increasingly become an important feature of the modern kitchen. With increasingly busy consumers spending less time on the high street, grabbing a coffee at home is an increasingly popular option – and our expectations are high!

There is a wide choice of coffee machines to select for your kitchen with a variety of added extras to make your coffee in just the way you want. The Ciao Shopping Guide to Coffee Machines gives the coffee enthusiast an overview of some of the most important features to bear in mind – whether you’re perfect for an espresso machine or more suited to a classic filter coffee maker.

Don’t forget that different machines will suit different people. The first decision to make is whether you are a frequent or occasional coffee drinker, as this will affect the investment that you’re prepared to make.

THE coffee maker

Advantages: high quality, reliable, easy to use, easy to keep it clean
Disadvantages: makes two coffees at a time

...it needs special machine. At Saeco engineers know how a good coffee is. I have this kind of coffee maker at my work place (ours at home is very similar, but other brand for financial reasons). I use it to prepare coffee for my bosses and their guests. I receive so many compliments for my coffee, you can't imagine. I could make a decision on what coffee maker to buy. I didn't hesitated much as I heard a lot about Saeco's premium coffee makers. So ...
...After you have a Saeco Vienna coffee maker, choose a 100% arabica coffee. I recommend you to buy medium roasted beans that is called French roast (Italian is the well roasted which makes you feel your coffee stronger and Viennese is the light roasted coffee). My favourite is the coffee of Kenya, but you should try coffee beans from other countries to find your favourite. So put a cup off coffee beans into the grinder (on the right), then fresh water ...

For the serious coffee addict

Advantages: Fast, top quality espressos quickly, childs play!
Disadvantages: May be a bit of an overkill for many, quite large

...This was our second Saeco purchase, we traded in the old model for an upgrade. The big selling point is everything can be done with the touch of a button. You also don't get the mess that we've encountered with manual machines. Here's how the process works: Choose your coffee size (small, medium, large buttons), choose your coffee strength (by a dial) and press a bottom. The machine grinds it's own beans, tamps and extracts the coffee and then ...
...you want milk touch another button and there's a nifty little gadget on the side that sucks up the milk and heats/froths it for you. For those of you who want to froth your own milk there is also a steam wand. Most importantly - the product The coffee is fantastic, we experimented a bit to get a blend of beans we loved. You have to be careful with the grinder knob for the coffee beans (course to fine) as it needs to be set just right, but once ...

Saco Talea Touch

Advantages: professional brewing; great results; easy to use
Disadvantages: coffee temperature could be a bit hotter. Warming tray size too small

...I have had three other Saeco models, so I am used to how they work. The coffee quality is much better with this new model. Friends say it tastes more like the coffee from a cafe' shop. Great crema . Everything is easy to use. It has a milk island which is an optional extra. It produces a dense frothed milk, much like the style everyone is after today not the light super fluffy type, but you can still produce this by steaming the milk with the steam ...
...is not hot enough unless you prewarm your cups with hot water. the warming tray ontop is a bit small and could be hotter. There is a two year warranty and my machine has just started to leak water a little so I hope this is the only problem I have. I will get it checked out, same with the temperature as I know somtimes it can be altered if it is not hot enough. I tried an instore machine of the same model and the coffee was much hotter. I make cuppucinos, ...

Excellent coffee - accept manufacturing default

Advantages: Compact for it's functions, easy to use
Disadvantages: Had major problems with it leaking

This was our first Saeco espresso machine purchase about three years ago. The first 8 months were a dream until it started to develop problems, which I'll detail below. But first how it all works. Why Automatic? This is an automatic espresso machine, what sold us was the fact that any body can use the thing, it's compact, and creates less mess than manual machines. We were also sold this version 'Rapid Steam' as it has two boilers as opposed to ...
...this is that one boiler is dedicated to the temperature of the water for the coffee shot, the other to the steam for frothing the milk. Therefore you don't have to wait the 30 seconds or so for the machine to heat up/cool down between functions. How it works There's a tank at the back to fill fresh water and a bean hopper. Basically fill the machine, choose what size coffee you want (denoted by buttons) and strength (denoted by a dial), press and ...

Magnificent Espresso - Delonghi Magnifica Auto Espresso Machine

Advantages: Excellent consistent espresso. Fully automatic. Easy to use and maintain.
Disadvantages: Initial outlay. Large footprint on worktop.

...plunge. I test drove the Delonghi and the closest Gaggia and I knew the Delonghi tasted better and was better for value for money at £100 cheaper. I was sold. I purchased my Magnifica from Whittard of Chelsea, Cheshire Oaks for £349. This included 500g of free coffee, a descaler kit, milk jug, thermometer and set of espresso cups. I left the store fully loaded with everything I needed to continue my espresso journey. Unpacking and Setup I am ...
...Gaggia and Jura. DeLonghi and Gaggia are very similar with their machine specifications and price point, between £3-750 where as Jura will start at around £900 upto £2500. Some of their machines even connect to the internet which is slightly overkill! Although the Magnifica is one of the cheaper machines it is still an expensive purchase and cheap is one thing it is not! A super automatic does everything for you. You place unground beans in the top ...
