Estee Lauder Beautiful Sheer Body Spray

Estee Lauder is a premium beauty brand which was founded in 1946 by Estee herself. The brand offers skincare, cosmetics and fragrance alongside other beauty products. The brand also owns Clinique.

Fragrance

Estee Lauder has a wide range of fragrances for both men and women. In 1953, Youth Dew was released as the debut fragrance and is still available today. Certain ranges such as Pleasures offers different variations of the original. Other fragrances include Sensuous and Beyond Paradise.

Beautiful Sheer

There are 3 fragrances which contain the Beautiful title :

• Beautiful – the romantic fragrance
• Beautiful Love – the passionate and vibrant fragrance

And Beautiful Sheer. Beautiful Sheer is a new release to Estee Lauder. The fragrance comes in the form of an Eau de Parfum. It is described as being a lighthearted, radiant, romantic and modern fragrance which anticipates new love.

Design

The design of Beautiful Sheer is very much like the original Beautiful. A strong and curvy glass bottle sits tall. The bottle is clear and is completed with a tall, silver lid. The writing is in silver and this reflects the slightly pink tinted perfume within the bottle.

My sample vials are spray bottles and come in a carded packet. The carded packet is strongly feminine depicting a bride in her gorgeous dress and her little flowergirl. Estee Lauder may well be promoting the fragrance as being something which could be worn to a wedding.

Notes

Beautiful Sheer is classed as being a fresh, floral fragrance and the combined notes certainly reflect this statement.

• Top notes – nashi pear, michelia fogii and ginger lily create the initial burst of scent.
• Middle notes – linden blossom, mimosa and pittosporum leaves make up the heart of the scent.
• Base notes – padouk wood and boxwood finish off the scent.

My Thoughts

Estee Lauder is a brand which I really like..perhaps not as much as Clinique or Lancome but it’s a luxurious brand and quite expensive. I often stock Estee Lauder samples from the gift time sets and sell them on ebay. Certain items are really popular whilst others aren’t and I do like to keep some stuff for myself.
The fragrances from Estee Lauder have never really enthralled my desires. I have always considered them to be rather old fashioned but mainly due to the length of time that some of them have been around. My wee granny (91) likes some of the fragrances and she is picky so that is saying something! I like to try new releases though so when I received a few sample vials in with a recent job lot I purchased on ebay, I kept a few for myself and gave my Mum one. My Mum likes the original Beautiful so I thought she would appreciate the opportunity to sample the new addition to the collection.

My little spray bottles contain 1.5ml each so I have had plenty of sprays to determine by position with Beautiful Sheer. The carded packet is really pretty and I could imagine from the start that this fragrance would be feminine and as its title specifies..Beautiful! The bottles that the collection offer aren’t anything striking and wouldn’t initially stand out alongside other designer offerings.

The first spray of Beautiful Sheer is quite harsh and the alcohol content is very apparent as being high and bordering on excessive. It takes a moment or two for my nose to detect the actual fragrance that it should be and it isn’t enticing or anything like I had imagined it would be. A strong and heady combination works together and confuses my senses like you wouldn’t believe. Is it floral? Is it sweet? To be honest it combines all of these qualities together but it isn’t that appealing, not to me anyway.

Thankfully the heady scent mellows into a slightly more pleasant and pleasing aroma. The florals are still prominent but it more subtler combination. The fragrance becomes light and refreshing with a modern streak to bring it right up to date. I cannot pick out the individual notes in the heart as they aren’t familiar to me but the florals are delicate and leafy. Its fragrance is a far cry from the initial blast and strikes me as being more versatile that I would have initially thought.

Within 2-3hours, the fresh floral combination takes a back seat and the pleasant woodiness of the base becomes known. I am used to the classic combination of musk, vanilla and sandalwood so the base of Beautiful Sheer took me by surprise. The scent sits very close to my skin and doesn’t overwhelm myself or those who are near to me. The woodiness is quite clean scented but distinctly warming and calming at the same time. It is a welcomed change from the normal bases that are used in the majority of fragrances.

Suitability

Beautiful Sheer is a modern yet mature fragrance which really needs to be appreciated by someone who desires floral notes. It isn’t as strong as the original Beautiful, but is only slightly denser. I recommend this fragrance for special occasion wear as the opening notes do tend to take over.

Recommended?

Beautiful Sheer is not for me as it is simply too strong in the florals. It didn’t sit right with my skin and I just didn’t feel like myself when wearing it, perhaps due to my age. My Mum who is in her 50s however, really loved this fragrance and I believed it smelled just right on her. This is proof that fragrances work differently on other people and why you should always test before buying a fragrance!

Beautiful Sheer doesn’t last very long on the skin and I am lucky to be able to detect even a faint whift of the base notes after 5hours so not ideal for a high quality, EDP. The price isn’t bad and about average for the brand though it is only available in 30ml and 75ml..unusual not to have a 50ml bottle available.
