My eyelashes are not my best feature. They're short and thin, and none of the previous mascaras I had used gave the effect I wanted. So I had pretty much given up with mascara, and I became more of an eyeliner girl.
But one day I was shopping at the John Lewis beauty section looking for a new foundation. I opted for Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation (the Double Wear display was very nice!) and was handed a 2.4ml sample of this Double Wear Mascara. I put it into my bag and pretty much forgot about it until a few days later when I found it at the bottom of my bag.
Curious, I inspected the short tube. I unscrewed the top and found quite a thin but very long brush, ensuring you covered every lash. I applied it carefully to my top lashes. I looked at the results and I had the best eyelashes I had ever had with any other mascara. It had done what it had claimed on the tube, it had lengthened and thickened (but in a natural way). I applied another coat but it clumped a little. Experimenting, I applied another and then another! It clumped a little more, and gave an almost false lash, as it thickened my eyelashes quite a lot.
So I carried on with the day, and few hours later went to check my eyes. I was surprised to see that the Zero-Smudge claim was true, despite the amount I had put on. Overall I was quite pleased.
I started to use this mascara quite a lot, using one or two coats for a natural but lengthened awake look, and several coats when going out for that false lash effect. It didn't last long as it was only a sample, but I did notice that it dried up very quickly, making the mascara very thick, and this is when the clumping started. However, after cleaning the mascara wand, the quality became better.
When it was time to removemy make-up, I was surprised to find how easy it was to remove the mascara. I used Clinique's eye make-up remover, but later found that warm water does just as well. When removing the mascara, I didn't get the uncomfortable feeling and it didn't smudge all over my eyes, it was very easily taken off almost like it was soaked up. Even if you applied about ten coats, it wasn't uncomfortable and didn't flake off like previous mascaras I had used.
To me, the most outstanding quality of this mascara is the Zero-Smudge, which is very useful to me, I tend to rub my eyes a lot, and turn into a racoon, but this stuff doesn't leave your lashes! Another thing I love about this is the fact it is like a 2 in 1, as it can give you a natural awake look as well as the false lash effect it can give which is ideal for going out.
After the sample had run out in about two weeks, I had to go out and buy it! At a hefty price at almost £20, I wasn't sure about whether to buy it. It was decided when I got a gift voucher for Debenhams, and I bought it for about £8.
I was very pleased when I bought it, and it turned out to be a great buy, and it would have been even if I didn't have the discount.
The tube was very much like the free sample but longer, a royal blue colour with a gold screw on lid, a gold band just underneath it. The words on the tube are printed in gold, Double Wear being the biggest and boldest. Underneath that reads "Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara".
After using this for a few months now, I can safely say that this is the best mascara I have used, and I am no longer more of an eyeliner girl! Personally, I think the whole of the Double Wear range is fantastic, especially the mascara.
Yes the price is high, but if you are looking for a great quality mascara, I highly recommend this!
