My 2nd dog unfortunately no longer with us was my faithful friend "Bertie" a loving big hearted GoldenRetriever. Bertie died from Leukimia in 2000 but I think about him nearly every day. I am a GoldenRetriever lover for life, so I thought I'd share my experiences with you of owning a Golden, the good bits and the bad bits. A can no longer have one because of the hair but if I could I would not hesitate to recommend.
History
The GoldenRetriever we know and love today was the result of one mans dedication to breed the perfect dog. Lord Tweedmouth was an English Peer whom had a vision of a pure yellow retriever dog who would retrieve birds during hunts. He started this vision is 1865 on a visit to the Earl of Chichester who was a dog breeder.

goldenretrievers are wonderful dogs, a loyal obedient breed whichcompletes a family. I own a 10 year old male called Nugget and he still loves his walks and being with the rest of the family even though he is getting old.
GR were bred as retrievers (look at the name!) and are loyal to their masters. Their attitude towards various people can alter, some growing up are taught strangers are bad though if left alone they will be friendly to almost everyone.
Aswith all pedigreee breeds, various traits can be found. Some say confusing and/orstrane behavoiur comes from pedigree breeding though this has never shown through Nugget. He has one problem which many GR owners havd commented on. He limps in his front right leg, a form of early artheritis which can limit the dog's activities and needs tablets or other medication. a GoldenRetriever lover for life, so I thought I'd put pen to paper and write about this breed.
~~History of GoldenRetrievers~~
Archive Kennel Club records trace this breed back to 1860 when Lord Tweedmouth breed a yellow wavy coat called Nous with a liver-coloured Tweed Water Spaniel called Belle. This resulted in four yellow pups which were bred to create the GoldenRetrieverbreed that we all know and recognise today.

GoldenRetrievers are lively, yet placid dogs who live to please their owners. They love nothing more than being part of a family. They are loving, faithful and friendly. Do beware of their wagging tails though, Bolly often managed to knock items flying with hers - including a glass of red wine onto my mother's pale green lounge carpet one Christmas?..
