Over the years I have had a tendency to have the odd little rash and irritating itch on my left knee and left elbow. The skin isn't broken but the itch drives me absolutely crazy. The skin becomes quite inflamed and the discomfort hard to bear.
I have tried pretty much every cream out there and the best until now has been hydrocortisone which usually clears it up in a couple of days. Last week however this was not the case, I had been left with a small penny sized inflamed portion of the knee and I thought for sure the hydrocortisone was once again doing it's job. Then bang the bottom portion of my leg became infected too and the cream was ineffective.
A quick trip to the local Boots chemist and a chat with the Pharmacist provided a partial cure. She advised that I use Eurax cream to stop the itch and continue with the hydrocortisone as well. I parted with the £3.91 in hope that this small sum was the answer to my prayers.
Within a few hours it was evident that the Eurax cream was doing it's part of the job in stopping itching. The redness had gone down but was not prepared to go away completely. After 2 days of putting on the Eurax cream and noticing a vast difference I again started with the hydrocortisone and now a further 3 days later the whole rash and itch is almost gone. I shall of course continue application for a few more days until it has completely vanished. The relief is unbelievable.
The small 30g tube has the word Eurax emblazoned across it's side with underneath the phrase "stops itching fast" which indeed it does do and most effectively. The main active ingredient in the cream is Crotamiton which is in a 1% strength, it also has loads of other stuff in it with big fancy chemical words which probably mean as much to you as they do to me. The cream should be applied 3 times a day for best results. The effectiveness is improved if before your final application of the day you wash the affected area and dry thoroughly. If you have such a condition and require the use of this cream it is advisable to seek the advice of either you GP or your local Pharmacist they are very helpful and will guide you in the direction which is correct for your condition.
The outlay of £3.91 is a very small price to pay for this exceptional cream, it has quite a nice clean medical kind of smell to it, but is slightly greasy and requires quirt a bit of hand washing to get the smell and greasy mess off your hands after application, but it is well worth the effort. If you have ever had an itch that drives you up the wall you need a tube of this at the ready to kill that itch stone dead.
Advantages: Stops your kids itching, easy to put on, drys out the spots Disadvantages: None - other than some people aren't keen on the smell!
...We were finally recommend Eurax Lotion and it was a total joy in more ways than one.
Firstly it seemed to cool the kids down and dry up the spots at the same time. This was great, especially in the first few days, when both of them were very unwell with a high temperature and were crying at the slightest thing.
Secondly it was really easily put on their spots - simply soak a cotton wool pad and wipe. We covered them both in lotion morning and night ... ...it did not mark any of their clothes or sheets - any marks were removed by machine washing at normal temperature - so I lashed it on!
My sister wasn't struck on the smell, personally I didn't think it smelt of anything..
I used the lotion and I managed to get it from the local chemist - it cost £4.69 for 100ml. (Just for info - the picture above is of the cream but the lotion is in the same packaging.) ...
