So I turn to the old palace of Knossos and the bright sun and cold fear latch on to me and I’m drawn in.
Years ago I stood at the gates and heard them talk about the labyrinths, monsters and threads given to frightened girls at which point I turned and looked at the old palace with broken walls.
We went in, wound round the dry stones and then I went on my own to see a restored wall painting. I focussed on the sun as the bright colours when my enemy’s shadow covered me. He said we had to go back to the dark hotel where he hurt me.
“But we went to Knossos first.” The doctor says that slowly things will get better and my sleep won’t be broken but I want to hold onto pretty Greek stories, for it to be as easy to escape the tangled secrets of my mind as latching onto a thread, to take me out from the dark hotel.
