This, I guess, is aimed more towards the fellas...

Whitley Bay is often classed as the stag capital of the North, beating Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough for it's nightlife and attractions.. THe main attractions, for a stag do, being the strippers.

Rio's isn't a strip club by any stretch of the imagination. It was originally opened and ran by one of the members of Duran Duran, hence the name Rio. However, three times a week, Graeme and Michael lt rip with the loudest, hottest and raunchiest show you are likely to find for miles around. ONe, I am told, that even eclipses the 'dedicated strip club' in the centre of Newcastle.

As you enter the bar, you will discover a catwalk, raised a couple of feet above the ground, which runs most of the length of the room. Along this are metal bars, which are supposed to keep the fellas from the ladies, but also provide gymnastic equipment for the girls who incorporate them into their routine.

At one end of the catwalk there is a pole, and at the other, a chair.

The music is always loud and pumping, and if there is a local or important football game on, that is played on the big screen, and on many of the smaller screens which are dotted around the place.

The 'strippers' perform on a monday evening, a wednesday evening and a saturday afternoon. On saturdays, there is also a lap-dancer who performs upstairs on a perspex floor so no-one has to miss the show.

The girls perform two routines each, some are raunchy, some are naughty, some are entertaining. The rules are that you cannot touch the girls, but they can touch you. There is a strict 'no camera' rule for obvious reasons.

The drinks are expensive... £3.20 for a bottle of smirnoff ice, but this doesn't seem to put off the hoards of fellas, young and old, married and single, who are drawn to the dancing sirens of whitley bay...

Although it may not be everyone's cup of tea, Rio is a fab afternoon or evening out for the fellas. There is nothing sordid, and the worst that is going to happen is that they get sprayed in shaving foam, usually by Charley, or they have the dubious pleasure of being singled out by the famous 'hacky-Jackie', who performs under the name Zoe.

At the end of the day, the girls are there to do a job, they all go home to their partners, and many of them to their kids.

The fact that so many people get so uptight about their fellas going to strip bars has always bemused me. It isn't as if a fella is ever going to really pull a stripper, its all part of the act! Sorry Guys, its True!

However, Rio's is a top class world famous bar, what a better way to pass a stag do on a saturday afternoon?!

I'm not too sure how, but somehow this has replaced my Rampant Rabbit op...

I've just become an organiser - my first party is on Saturday and I'm scared! I've got a Rampant Rabbit but the delux version looks much better. What do you mean 'can be used WITH' a partner. How about instead of? Take care, Loz x.
