As mentioned in previous reviews, the whole concept that 'EVO' is based around is made clear from the tag line on the magazine - "The Thrill of Driving". This is a magazine that is aimed squarely at the driving enthusiast - the emphasis isn't on how large a car's boot is or how the rear seats fold down, but how much a car gets your heart and adrenaline pumping.

The difference with EVO that sets it apart from other magazines is that it is oozing with style in all aspects, with some of the most evocative (perhaps where the name comes from) writing I have ever read. The whole publication is polished and professional, and despite the subject matter of having fun while driving, is never irresponsible and never promotes anti-social behaviour.

The magazine covers the most desirable and exclusive cars available on the planet - Zondas, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches - these (extremely) lucky guys not only get to drive these cars, but they get to really test them to the limit and then write about them.

But, although for 99.9% of us out there these cars are pure fantasy, a great deal of the magazine's content covers cars that are indeed tangible for a lot of people. I have the September 2007 issue in front of me now, and they have features on such a diverse range of cars from the £9,995 Renault Twingo GT, up to the £100k+ Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio, and a whole comparison test with four great Lambourghinis. There really is content here that we can all relate to, and the great thing is that when they are comparing cars they really do put expense and badge snobbery to one side. By this, I mean that when they do big shoutouts or Car Of The Year tests, they compare Supercars alongside hot hatches. Of course, the supercars are faster and more desirable, but the whole point is that 'EVOness' isn't purely about speed - it is about the feeling you get, and the huge grin on your face, when you are driving.

The magazine has all the features that you expect - news, letters, reviews, special features, buying guides, long term reports etc. But as mentioned previously it is the sheer quality of the magazine that keeps me coming back for more. The writing is generally fantastic - even if they are describing something that is pure fantasy for most of us - such as a trans-continental jaunt in a £200,000 hypercar - the writing is of such a high quality that its puts you right in the driver's seat. But what I find even more fantastic is when this quality of writing and enthusiasm is provided in equal measure when the magazine is talking about a modest and humble hatch back.

High production values are also clearly in evidence - the design and layout are suberb and this is further enhanced with some simply superb photography. If the writing doesn't get you then then photography certainly will!.

Overall, if you have the slightest interest in performance cars I can't recommend this highly enough to you. I have read this magazine for a long time now but have only just subscribed for some bizarre reason! Pick a copy if you haven't before - I am sure that the quality of all aspects of the magazine, along with its sheer diversity, will make sure that you go back for more.
