Laxative abuse has been a part of my life for around three years now. It first started when I read about the effects of the product in a certain celebrity's autobiography, and from that moment I knew it was something I wanted to try. So I did. And I loved the effects. Now I say 'loved', but perhaps that word is too strong. It became an addiction, the central point of abuse within my eating disorder. I couldn't live without them...
Laxatives help the bowel movement, generally taken when one is suffering from constipation. Often they can be prescribed if constipation or poor bowel movement is severe, though more often than not you can pick up an effective option on the shelves in supermarkets and chemists. Among other top brands such as Calfig, you will find Ex-Lax.
Ex-Lax Senna Chocolate Laxatives come in a little cardboard packet, which has a main blue colour to it. It does stand out quite well among the other packets, with 'Ex-Lax' written in blue block capitals across the middle. The thing that I think makes these most appealing is the little picture of chocolate on the front. These are 'chocolate laxatives', made to taste more appealing than horrid brown laxative tablets. If I am honest, I think this is quite a bad thing. It makes them more appealing to children too. Oh dear!
Opening up the packet, you will find two silver foil 'parcels'. In each parcel you will find twelve little chocolate tablets, twenty four in total. As you remove the foil, you will find that the thin tablets to look exactly like very small squares of chocolate, and they have a faint scent too that is quite similar. The first time I tried these, I wasn't sure how they would taste, so giving a tablet a chew, I let my tastebuds get to work. It was then that I discovered that they did in fact taste like chocolate. Albeit cheap chocolate, it still tasted like chocolate. It was quite basic, slightly crumbly too, but a little tasty.
It's all well that these taste okay, but do they work? I think it is safe to say that these do work, yes. The laxatives work overnight, and in the morning after taking just two tablets, you are ready to go to the toilet and empty your bowel as intended. Now despite what some people say and think, they do not leave you in a situation where you need to rush to the toilet and make it 'just in time', though you do feel them working - you know you need to go, but you are given plenty of time from this initial instruction!
I was curious to find out how these laxatives actually worked. I am quite dubious about medicines and tablets, so I like to know how exactly they are supposed to be working. Each of the twenty four ex-lax tablets contans 15mg of sennosides, which is around average for your usual laxatives you buy in stores. Sennosides come from Senna leaves, and is used often as a natural laxative. It sounds quite reliable, and indeed it does work!
Inside the Ex-Lax packet there is a leaflet with all the safety precautions, such as not being able to take this under certain circumstances etc. It is worth reading this just in case - you don't want to find out that you cannot take these after you've chewed them! Unfortunately though, even reading the label does not stop some people! I did read the label when I first took these, but none of the health warnings hit me. I got to the stage when I was taking nine laxatives a night. Though that did result in a horrific follow up. On one occasion in the morning after I'd taken nine, I was feeling ill and went upstairs to the toilet, thinking I was going to be sick. Though when nothing happened I decided to go back downstairs. As I stood at the top of the stairs the world spun in front of me. Next thing I know I am lying at the bottom of the stairs. Obviously I had been dehydrated because of the laxatives, and I had collapsed. I have to consider myself very lucky as I could have quite easily snapped my neck and got more than just carpet burn falling down those stairs. You'd think that would have stopped me taking laxatives...it didn't though.
If you are in need of laxatives then you can pick a pack of twenty four ex-lax for around £2.30, which is not really a bad price at all. You're not supposed to take them regularly, and since you are only supposed to take two at a time, then these are going to last you a little while so your money does go quite far. I do stress though - only buy them if you really need them. Once you start abusing them, it becomes impossible to stop. It is still a haunt in my life, and I have a feeling it always will be. If you know of anybody who is abusing them, help them in any way you can! They are so dangerous and can damage your bowels and your life for ever. However, as a laxative to help constipation, then they are ideal. Just be careful.
Advantages: Works well, tastes OK, not expensive Disadvantages: Sometimes works too well
I feel that I should warn you before you to start to read this opinion that it is going to be basic, well given the subject matter it has to be really. So if things lavatorial offend you stop reading right now.
OK you have been warned, so here goes.
My problem is that I don’t drink enough water on a regular basis. I remember some days and then forget on others so I end up getting constipated.
I have never been someone who could set their watch ... ...am more hit and miss so to speak sometimes going a few times a day sometimes not at all.
If I don’t go for a few days on the run (if you’ll pardon the pun!) I start to feel really uncomfortable and that’s when I turn to Ex Lax.
Ex lax is a chocolate laxative made from purified senna extract. It also contains cocoa liquor, sucrose, cocoa butter, lecithin and vanillin, so it’s 100% natural.
Each box contains 18 little squares of quite pleasant tasting ...

...product as deceptively lethal as Ex-Lax brand laxatives. They’re so tiny… so chocolaty… so hell-bent on rendering your bowels into acidic juice. They appear innocent or even harmless, but are in reality quite the opposite.
Like a combat knife disguised a banana, they look delicious but will skewer your insides with no remorse.

I have. And it sucks. Straight up.

Advantages: It works very well and tastes pleasant. Not too expensive Disadvantages: Probably only if you consume too many at once, although I have not
...I was told about Ex-Lax by a good friend of mine who I go fishing with. He's been using it for a little while and it worked for him so I thought it might for me.
I bought it from my local phramacy and tried one little tablets before I went to bed last Thursday evening. Nothing had changed when I rose from my slumber the next morning so I took another, as prescribed on the box, after breakfast the next day. This worked a treat and I felt very well ... ...try to eat a healthy diet, as my GP has recommended, but sometimes I just need a bit of a helping hand. It tastes of chocolate and apparently is 100% natural. It's not a dramatic laxative, but gently helps your movement to work its way through your bowel.
It cost me £2.99 for a little box of eighteen squares, which isn't so expensive as they do last quite a while. I have also recommended it to a couple of other friends who I play bowls with and ...
