Speed Show! Review ofWestern Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150 GBby
Farrukh
Advantages: The fastest available,16 MB buffer, 4.6 ms seek time, 10000 rpm. Disadvantages: Very expensive, Little capacity
...drives. These new Raptors unfortunately run at the older 1.5 Gb/s SATA I speeds but there is no application that would be able to saturate this bandwidth anyway. These features add up to an out of this world 241 MBps Burst speed in HD Tach 3.1 (when setup in a RAID O configuration) and about 78 MBps write speed sustained for one drive. In fact, if you compare these drives to the ultra expensive and elite SCSI 15,000 RPM drives, you find that you will get about 90 to 120% of the performance for only about 30 to 50% of the price (and without any of the SCSI setup headaches).
Modders and hardware monkeys will love the new 150 GB Raptor X models because the top of the drive is transparent polycarbonate. The drive also looks damn nice with a tough industrial styling and heat fins on the side to help with thermal output. Also, do not forget...

Advantages: Good for vista, fast for every day needs Disadvantages: Not as overclockable as core 2 duos
...that with this CPU and 1.5gb, you would deffinatly benefit from upgrading to vista from xp (just like i did). Even though 2 gb is recomended, i found this setup more than enough.
One thing worth mentioning, this is one of the better overclockers out of thedual core range offered by amd, iv hit 2.7 ghz which performs like a 5200+!!!
This cpu would sit comfortably in any system at 2.4ghz with slight increase in voltage though.
The perfect ingredients for a budget vista setup would include this cpu as vista makes use of dual core for the operating system itself, 1.5gb of ram, although 2gb is fairly cheap now so you might as well go for that, and any graphics card that goes for £50 pounds.
To summarise, this is a good upgrade path for anyone with an am2 socket motherboard with an Athlon 64 cpu. if you can manage to sell your existing cpu, with the money...
