Anyone who believes this book is nonsense needs their head examining. This has to be one of the most truly original books I have ever read. Most of the dialogue is conducted between enormous sentient spacecraft which are thousands of light years away from each other. I'll admit it can be hard going at times but it's certainly worth it in the end.
Amongst other insights, you are let in on the ambitions of these sentient craft who in their spare time devise universes based on different physical laws. The book revolves around an amomaly in space that intrigues the Culture and their investigations into it.
Fantastic.Any Ian M Banks fan will love it. If you are new to Bank's SciFi though, start with Use Of Weapons or Consider Phlebas as these are much more easy going.

Anyone who is worried about having to concentrate a bit on a book should, possibly, steer clear of this author. Having said that, Look To Windward is a rollicking read that doesn't demand attention but rewards you if you think-along.

Agree with much of the opinion - I found that the names of the Minds began to blur the more I read - I'm still not entirely sure who's who. As for the role of the Humans in the novel, I found it more interesting to read about the diminished role people play in the Culture universe; an interesting take on the future.
