The Proteus Operation by James P Hogan

Advantages: Highly enjoyable read
Disadvantages: none

Mike Cassidy. They along with the rest of the commandos are led to believe that they will form part of the security operation around the warehouse in Brooklyn but soon find that Claude Winslade has brought them along for other reasons; just in case things didn't work out well with establishing the connection back to 1974. Whilst Claude and his historian advisors set off to England, Harry and the rest of the commandos prepare for an undercover operation deep in the heart of Germany. The initial slow pace of the novel may not appeal to many readers but for me it allows for the development of the characters central to the story. James P Hogan expertly describes a gloomy world in 1974 where all hope has gone with the Nazis literally about to take over the world and contrasts it with an innocent America in 1939 where Glen Miller plays ...

Damage - David Sylvian and Robert Fripp

Advantages: wonderful songs on one the best recorded live albums ever
Disadvantages: no "Darshan"

You need this album. You just do. I could just leave it at that, but I will elaborate a little. I was at this concert - Royal Albert Hall, December 1993 - and it was one of the most amazing gigs I've ever attended. A few years earlier Robert Fripp had asked David Sylvian (ex singer with Japan and now a successful and innovative solo artist) to front a new version of Fripp's band King Crimson. Probably wisely Sylvian declined but the pair agreed to work together, first on series of improvised concerts in Japan and Italy in 1992 where they developed a stunning selection of new music, then on a fully fledged album project with a full band. This was issued in 1993 as The First Day and is well ...

Review of Damage (Live) - David Sylvian/Robert Fripp

P**S off I hate you!

Advantages: Occasional moments
Disadvantages: Cliche and soppy

I have nothing against 'chick flicks' as they are the films normal girls like, just as action movies are for normal boys, 'PS I Love You' the big word-of-mouth movie on opinion sites in 2008 and so at least worth a look. And with blockbusters doing the excellent five older movies for the whole week for just five quid rental it seemed the right time to rent it. Based on the book by the same name by the young and gorgeous Cecilia Ahern, 21 when she wrote it, now a best selling 'chick lit' author (or as Tony parsons calls it, "cl*t lit", making this a cl*t lick flick.lol), it is a film aimed solely at women and so a minefield for boys, one of those films your girl rents in the hope some of that romance they seek all their lives hopefully rubs off on you when you snuggle on the sofa. These films have a lot to answer for, right guys ...
