I recently looked into Experian when I found I was having problems getting credit and couldn't understand why.
Experian was my first choice as it is the only credit check company that I am actually aware of.
The homepage boasts :
unlimited online access to your credit report understand and manage your credit score free 30 day trial with no obligation.
The free trial was what swung it for me to go ahead and register.
Much is placed on the Free to check your credit report.
On registering with Experian they will take a payment card details from you and if you don't cancel within the 30 days you will automatically be charged £6.99.
In this free trial you can access your credit report which gives you details of all your credit accounts (bank accounts, credit cards store cards), you can access each credit account to find out who you have settled and ongoing accounts with, if you show as having missed payments with them in the last 12 months.
You can see how much available credit you currently have and how much of your total available credit that you are using in %. You can see the total of your borrowed funds and if you have any accounts overdue.
This site is also useful for seeing who has checked your credit rating.
You can set up an email alert to notify when your credit rating is checked.
If you want a full credit report you can order one at a cost of £5.95. I am unable to review that as I haven't used that option.
The site is fairly easy to navigate around.
I have found this site really useful and it answered a lot of questions in my head about my credit. I personally wouldn't consider subscribing to this site as I wouldn't benefit from checking it regularly, I have the info i was looking for so it is no longer of use to me.
I would recommend using this site for the free trial and I would suggest that you phone and cancel it as soon as you have checked your report if you are the forgetful type. Please note that it isn't straight forward or easy to find out how you can cancel your membership.
The Experian website is www.creditexpert.co.uk.
THE IMPORTANT BIT
To cancel call 0800 6569000 and choose option 4.
Great site when its free.
Summary: Great if you remember to cancel before your 30 days are up
