Advantages: Deadpan, comic, dark, sparse... Disadvantages: Perhaps some of the comedy was too subtle for me!

Inertia, petty bickering, bureaucracy, the insanity of wasting your life on so-called ?work?, power politics, status madness and the nonsense of productivity are all lined up in a row in this surprisingly subtle fable for the 21st century. The dark and deadpan Kafkaesque quality of the sparse writing allows for some moments of gentle, sad and very English social comedy but ultimately I felt that there was not quite enough comedy to pull this novel along as I suspect MagnusMills would have hoped.
I keep returning to the word ?fable? because this is a work with one main message and that makes for a peculiar read if there is not enough to keep us laughing throughout it. Sure, both the plot and the characters are purposefully one dimensional, and I have no truck (sorry!) with Mills for using that ...
Advantages: The view, and erm everything else, but the view mainly! Disadvantages: Too many mirrorerd walls - it's a hazard!
