Cheap Laser Eye Surgery
Advantages: You'll look better and this can boost your confidence Disadvantages: Costly, but still worth it. Some risks, but very low rate of serious risks such as blindness!
We've all seen the adverts on TV/Internet/Magazines - "Laser Vision Correction from £395" but this is a simple ploy to get you interested. I had three consultations; Optimax, Vision Express & Ultralase and was quoted £2950-£3655. It seems that there is either no £395 or this is a very basic laser procedure which accounts for an insignificant number of rare cases. For a full report on this issue due to complaints filled see:

Firstly, laser eye surgery is carried out by ophthalmologists. These are eye doctors and have a medical degree and further training on the optical field. Although, from the laser application only lasts a few seconds, the technology is highly advanced and the pre-surgery tests are very extensive. The main reason however, in my opinion, as to why ...

Optimax laser eye surgry (LASIK Glasgow)
Advantages: Being able to see without glasses! Disadvantages: The discomfort during surgery.
...LASIK carried out at the Optimax clinic in Glasgow on Monday 30th April by Dr Anwar. My prescription was -3.75 and -5 with slight astigmatism in both eyes. I checked this forum before I went and was slightly worried by the lack of info on the Glasgow clinic. I went ahead anyway (maybe not too sensible!) and it was all fine. The worst thing about the whole thing was the wait. I had my consultation at 9am and then the surgery at about 3pm which meant ... ...came to it Dr Anwar and the assistants made me feel at ease. He talked all the way through and explained exactly what was going on. It took about 20 mins I think, which passed really quickly. I had read that people find it 'uncomfortable' which I thought meant it was painful. It wasn't at all painful and the discomfort was really just that it felt a bit weird to have people prodding at your eyeballs! Even in on the day of the surgery I felt no pain ...

I CAN SEE !!!
Advantages: The miracle of vision Disadvantages: Cost and a few pre surgery worries
...I had to have the PRK procedure. I was a little worried as the procedure used is a little dated and the healing time takes a little longer as only the surface cells of the eye are touched by the laser, but my fears were reassured. I asked my surgeon what all the risks were and he said the worst thing that could happen was that it wouldn't work and I would still need glasses. I had to take someone with me to drive me home as after the consultation ... ...the drops used in the eye scan to assess my suitability to surgery
When the surgery day arrived I was terrified!!! Drops were placed in my eyes and my eyeballs became numb, it was the strangest feeling I have ever experienced in my life. The surgery took place while I was awake which was very weird. Little clamps were placed around my eyes to keep them open (painless) and I had to look straight ahead. It was quite funny really I had to stop myself ...

I can see clearly now - the lens have gone
Advantages: No glasses or contacts needed Disadvantages: None for me
Having to wear my first pair of glasses at the age of eight, I quickly decided that they did not do much for me (in the looks stakes!) and by eleven I was wearing contact lens. Between that date and my 41st birthday I can honestly say that even though I had absolutely no problems with contact lens if a genie had popped out of a bottle and granted me one wish it would have been to be able to see from the moment I opened my eyes in the morning.
I ... ...was always a little bit unsure as to whether it was a good idea to have someone 'poking around' in my eyes. I may not have been able to see clearly upon waking but at least I wasn't blind.
All this held me back from taking the plunge of eye surgery. I had, in the past, read the websites and literature but to be quite honest it didn't give me what I needed, which was confidence that it would work.
My prescription was 5.0 and 5.5 left and right eyes ...
