I seriously think I must have far too much time on my hands!
Having decided to go for full on glam over the festive season, I picked these up, and thought I would have a go at the false eye lash thing. I have had them done by the beautician before, and they lasted and looked good, so in my naivety, I thought I could do a decent job.
~~THE PROMISE~~
These are supposed to last for up to 4 weeks, and can enable you to design your lashes for a perfect day or evening look. They are also suitable for contact lens wearers.
~~WHAT ARE THEY?~~
Quite simply, these are individual eye lashes- 17 each of short, medium and long, in a plastic holder, and all individually spaced so there is minimum confusion!
They come in a small box complete with a tiny bottle of adhesive and a tiny bottle of remover. Imagine a perfume sample bottle, and go a bit smaller and that's the size, along with the same kind of "difficult to pull of top" they often have.
~~USING THEM~~
The instructions make it sound oh so simple.
Make sure your eyes and lashes are clean, and pour some of the adhesive onto foil. Using the short lashes for you inner lashes, medium for centre and long for outer, pick the chosen lash up with a tweezer, dip into the adhesive and stick the knotted end to the top of your eyelash.
In this way, you can work towards the outer corner, and use 7-14 lashes per eye, depending on the effect you want.
The website, www.eylure.co.uk has lots of beauty information, and I have since found out that for real fans, these are available in packs of short, medium and long lashes, as well as the combination pack I bought.
I can't see if these are available to buy online, but they are sold in larger chemists and supermarkets
~~What I think of them~~
These are altogether too fiddly for me.
They are not cheap, and although the instructions are comprehensive, it's really not especially clear how you stick them to your own lashes. I think the tendency here is to stick them to your eye lid.
The adhesive comes in a tiny amount, and it seems that one use ensures that it is gone…eylure do sell extra bottles of adhesive. With a bottle of adhesive, I did manage to stick on a couple of eyelashes, and although they looked quite effective, they fell off almost immediately, so I have no idea how they stay on for up to 4 weeks. It must mean no touching or washing of the eyes.
There are plenty of lashes to chose from, and I would imagine that if you got the hang of them, they would look effective. The website states that Kylie and Victoria Beckham are fans, But somehow, I can't see them struggling to apply their false lashes with the adhesive on a bit of foil.
For me, these are a no go area, and having given them to a couple of friends to try, I have decided that it's not just because I am clumsy- they really are very tricky to apply. My suggestion is to leave the false eyelashes to the professionals- far less frustrating, much better look, and in the long run, probably cheaper.
