racing to its 2000 range of titles. On the gameplay side, there is enough going on to involve player interest, with various levels of racing to go at. If you want to jump straight in, go for a Quick Race, the speed fiends may want to challenge each other to a Time Trial, but the more experienced player will want to dive straight into a Weekend campaign. The Weekend game does require a bit of skill. You can tweak the performance of your car accordingly to get the best results on a particular circuit (of which there are 17 from around the world, including Indianapolis and Silverstone). Speed your way through practice runs, qualifying rounds and then the race itself. Options also exist for changing weather conditions and car damage. For really grab-hardened racing veterans requiring a bit more kick under the hood,F1 2000doesn't quite deliver the goods. The graphics look dated, lacking the silky realism that has become the norm. You get the sense it may be treading water until PlayStation 2 makes its debut. --Mark Wright

Ok, as you can no doubt tell from the title I don't like this game much. Where should I start with the criticism though.
Well, I will first list the minimum specification to play this game:
Ok, well if anyone has actually played the game at that spec, you have my sympathies. You would have to turn every single graphics option and resolution to minimum. Then you could probably just about play a practice game with you and another car (maybe).
The recommended spec:
Pentium 2 450mhz 128 Ram 8mb Graphics Card
This spec is more realistic but, you will experience terrible slowdown. If you get slowdown then I would recommend you open the F1 .ini file. You will find this in the folder for the game. You will see a number, something like:

Ok, now my recommended specification for this game:
Athlon or P3 700mhz or above 256 megs of Ram or above 16mb graphics at least
As you can no doubt tell from that, this game is a resource hog. Finally since I upgraded my comp I can run the game at virtually maximum detail without getting horrendous slowdown at the first corner.
Ok, so far I have just told you about the inefficiency of the programming, so what are the graphics like:
Graphics ********
The cars and tracks are well modelled. They don't look stunning or anything though. I can't bring myself to get at all excited by these graphics, even though as I said earlier I play with virtually maximum detail. Some will love them, some will hate them. I am in the latter camp it has to be said.
Sound *****
Decent enough engine sounds provided you have a decent sound card and speakers. No in race commentary but there is an annoying race engineer voice. You hear it as you are driving, I don't believe this adds much and soon enough you will be turning it off. Before each race Jim Rosenthal (the presenter of F1 from ITV) introduces the circuit. After the race he will also say a few little things.

Gameplay ********
I have played this game with a steering wheel - in the cockpit view it is playable. External viewpoint it is awful.
I have played this game with a pad - cockpit view playable, external view is slide city, the car constantly slides out.
To be fair there are options you can turn on and mess about with that make this less of a problem, but it never completely disappears. You can turn on all sorts of help from steering assist, braking assist, etc all these help you to control the game a little better.
There are an awful lot of car setup options within this game also, which helps if you are an F1 fanatic. Me, I just use the preset car setups :-)
All in all whilst this game isn't the worst ever it is full of irritations. The statistics and cars are now also out of date.
If you have an excellent computer Don't mind out of date statistics Have the patience of a Saint Know all about car different car setups Have a fondness for playing in the cockpit viewpoint Are daft in the head,
Then by all means by this game :-) only joking about the last bit actually that isn't compulsory, though it helps.
Kev
This is an opinion, if you own this game and have it running on an older computer wonderfully, or you have found out a way to control the cars, I would be interested to hear it :-)
Advantages: great looks, and sound Disadvantages: game play not the best ive ever experienced
...then there is EA Sports' F1 2000. Boasting all the trappings of the 2000 season (including the actual drivers, teams, and tracks), variable levels of play, realistic physics, and gorgeous graphics you simply can't get a better Formula One game than this puppy.
Like the majority of Electronic Arts' games F1 2000 is one slick package, from beginning to end. The manual, while it looks rather thin, is chock full of useful information. Unlike some manuals ... ...if you like to play F1 2000 as a full blown sim and your wife just wants to play it like an arcade game you won't need to alter the realism options every time you sit down to play. Just change the profile and you're ready to burn rubber.
There are several modes of play, ranging from Test Day (like it sounds this type of race is just to practice the various tracks and car configurations) to the Championship (the full race circuit) mode. Since F1 ...

Advantages: Very realistic Disadvantages: A bit addictive
F1 2000 is a very good and realistic game based on the motor sport Formula 1.
The graphics are superb and the cars actially look like F1 cars... unlike other F1 games where they look like a pointed box with 4 wheels.
The gameplay is superb and every is so real... the cars, background, pitlane, gameplay and you actually feel like you're driving a F1 car.
F1 2000 is definetly a very good game and you should definetly try this game out, but once ...

Advantages: 2000 Season. Disadvantages: Unplayable, graphically poor and inefficient, inaccurate data, dubious physics, no longevity.
...little more practice at making F1 games. The physical representation of the F1 world in ‘F1-2000’ is terrible. The cars are extremely simple to drive and the tracks stripped of any challenging elements. Sitting down to complete a full race distance in this game is not an appealing prospect. The developers make a number of small but significant oversights that greatly compromise the game’s attempts to be entertaining. For example, the qualifying mode ... ...and out of proportion. ‘F1-2000’ was clearly rushed to sell loads of copies by being the first F1 game to feature the new seasons’ data. The whole game engine and mechanism needs vast improvement before it can rival the likes of ‘Grand Prix 3’ and ‘Grand Prix Legends’. ...

Advantages: Ferrari ,Gaphics , Realism,Cars Disadvantages: Mclaren,Commentary
Formula 1 2000 must be the most accurate simulation of formula 1.
From the cars to the teams it is pure exceellence although the commentary is something to think about as it gets quite annoying with the pit crew balabbering in your ear. The graphics make up for it and every race you can sproose up your car as much as you want. The sound isnt great but I guess the feel of racing as one of your best drivers is enough. The one thing got me worried ... ...go faster than Micheal Shumacher (hmmm) that is one of the few flaws. There are a few glithes and I wouldnt reccomend it to any non Racing or Formula1 fan but if you enjoy this kind of thing I highly recommend it. This game is well worth a look at and spend a little bit of your time to get into it trust me you will really enjoy it. Sorry if anything I say offends any mclaren fans but I am a Ferrari fan through thick and through. ...

Advantages: Great Realism Disadvantages: Hard to Get to Grips with
One word comes to mind: CLASS. Okay, so the steering is abit like that of a tank and there are a few glitches in the driver Al, but otherwise this game is just class.I love the innovation of pit lane assitance off(and being able to spectacularly spin off other drivers!)
The tracks and scenary are incredible and the general graphics are to me, miles better than Grand Prix 3.
Add to the equation the excellent multiple car models and a vitual cockpit ...
Advantages: Well, it looks marvellous on the cover Disadvantages: Hard to load, (although that may just be my other half!), impossible to steer
not. The game is almost uncontrollable. No matter what tactics we tried we just could not steer the cars. We tried steering wheels, gamepads, a new gamepad in case the problem was the old one...all to no avail. The cars veer left and right apparently at will, the tires screech, and then you hit the wall.
F12000 has now been consigned to the back of the drawer, only to brought out when we really feel like giving ourselves the hump. It is a shame as we are huge F1 fans and maybe it is only us, maybe someone, somewhere out there can play this like a pro..if so please, please, please tell us where we are going wrong before we commit an unspeakable act upon this game. ...

Advantages: Great graphics, accurate tracks, all the real cars and drivers Disadvantages: Handling is not accurate, and some actions exagerated
. The minor details such as trees are not so accurate, but any objects you would naturally expect are there, such as the Ferris wheel on the side of Suzuka circuit in Japan.
The gameplay however is not quite as good. The cars just don't seem real, and seem more arcade like than anything else. This isn't helped by the driver aids such as traction control and ABS, but as these are now part of Formula 1 for real, it is an unfortunate consequence that they end up in the game. These can be switched off, which gives more feeling from the car, as you would have experienced in previous game, such as F12000 on the PC.
You expect the car to fly off the track if it as much as touches the grass, but you almost drive on the grass and all it does is slow the car down somewhat. You can get to the point where the car is sliding and is almost sideways, yet ...
Advantages: An extremely realistic F1 sim with huge long-term playback value. Disadvantages: A couple of graphical glitches, tough to play at first.
. Make a mistake yourself and expect to see a computer opponent snapping at your heels to get past. In so many other games – the appalling ‘F1-2000’ especially – the other cars dawdle around the circuit like a disorientated pensioner in a Nissan Micra. Not so here, the AI is first-rate.
Difficult though the cars are to drive a combination of 8 driver aids and 5 skill levels make learning the game quite easy and approachable. As I have mentioned though, using a joystick or keyboard is a waste of time – a steering wheel is vital.
The less impressive aspects of ‘Grand Prix 3’ are mainly where Geoff Crammond has failed to improve adequately on his previous efforts. The use of sprites as marshals is ridiculous in a 21st-century computer game. The action replay system is similarly prehistoric – ...
