Full review

I love football management sims. I have liked them ever since I bought Championship Manager 97 to play with my son, Daniel.

I was given The FA Premier League Football Manager 2000 as a Christmas present this year by one of my step-teenagers. Although dated it is still available and I couldn't wait to play it.

Installation of the game is simple just pop the CD into your CD drive and the Auto-run menu will appear. If it doesn’t go to your start button on the task bar then click Run. A dialogue box will appear and type in d:\autorun and hit the return (if d is not the correct letter for your CD drive replace it with the correct letter). Now all you do is follow the instructions until you have the game loaded.

Now the fun begins! You do not have to play in the Premier Division. You can in fact play any of the divisions including the Conference, which I enjoy starting in. Once you have selected your team you will be left with the in-game menu. I would suggest you spend a lot of time getting used to the MANY different areas by having a click around. You will be surprised at just how much you have to do in the different areas there are. You will be responsible for buying and selling players, the youth team, the reserves, improvements to the grounds, ticket prices, tactics, training, hiring and firing of staff and much, much more. All of these seem to be in different hard to find areas meaning you could be ignoring something that will get you the sack later! I am still discovering things I have missed which impresses me but also can annoy when I think back on it.

The 3D Match Engine is quite impressive to watch when you first get the game, although all of the players have to suffer with there only being three faces available between them. Even so after a little while you begin to notice that there are some bugs in the game. For some reason even when a player is right in front of an open goal he may well pass the ball back rather than score. I should imagine this is due to some random number generator that decides what happens in the game.

I have also noticed an amusing little glitch whereby if a player is tackled from behind he will be booked rather than the offending player. I always knew referee’s were blind! In the end watching games becomes very aggravating and I would suggest you go to the options area and Select NONE which will mean the viewing of the game is stopped and all you see is the final score. For all of the good watching the game will do you this is the best option which is a shame because you no longer require the 3D!

You might well think you have no further problems but you still have to find players to improve your team. Spend to much and you will be sacked. Pay too much on wages and you will be sacked. The search engine is sad and doesn’t really help at all! Try finding one player with a passing ability of 18 and dribbling of 17 to see what I mean. You end up with an empty page. When it does provide you with players you still have to click on each one to ascertain which is best which is time consuming! I have played for hours and still only been two months into the game! Very time consuming for little to show for it. Ensure you do check out the stats though as it can be important!

In the end you are left with a game that is VERY complicated and hard to find your way around. The game is slow to play with some obvious bugs and others that are less obvious but still as annoying. It looks good and the 3D Match Engine might seem impressive but in the end the game fails to live up to Championship Manager.

Although disappointed with aspects of the game, I am still enjoying it! I guess I am just addicted to football manager sims! Or perhaps the game overcomes the errors? Either way the game although very hard to master might well give some people hours of pleasure.

I have found a few cheats that might help you though and note these below;

Add the following command line parameters to the shortcut starting the game (i.e.: "C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\FA Premier League Football Manager 2000\footballmanager2000d.exe" /fastbuild777 /cash777 /showstat777)

CHEAT CODE RESULT
/cash777 More Cash up front
/showstat777 Shows the stats for Un-researched players
/fastbuild777 As it says builds fast
/alwayswin777 Your team always wins (BORING)
/nolimit777 No money limits
/alwayslose777 Your team always loses (for the masochist out there)

Review of FA Premier League Manager (PC) by scumfrogs

Advantages: Loads of details, very in-depth
Disadvantages: Can be slow, and sometimes crashes

...to say, you're very wrong. FA Premier League Manager 2002 (FAPLM), by Electronic Arts, is fast becoming one of the most popular management sims around. There is no doubt that this is all down to the immense detail, accuracy, and wealth of features within the game. So, what does this FAPLM have over Championship Manager, the undisputed king of management sims? First of all, the match engine. Championship Manager shows you the entire match in text ...
...and of course our own FA Premier League. This game is one of the greats, and definitely deserves my catchphrase - fantastic! I'd strongly recommend for any football fans to buy this game - it's available on Amazon.co.uk quite cheaply, and more information can be found by searching for the game title, or visiting the Electronic Arts website, www.uk.ea.com. ... FOOTBALL MANAGER 2002
Review of FA Premier League Manager (PC) by Sirus619

Advantages: ONGOING GAME
Disadvantages: ADDICTIVE

Football manager 2002 is now out of date since last week when the new ea sports management game came out. If you love Ea Sports you will know that I am talking about TOTAL CLUB MANAGER. Back to this game though!!!! Released little over a year ago Football manager 2002 is another chapter in the football management games brought to you by EA sports. I have owned all of the Ea Football management games since 1996 and they have gotten better each year ...
...more powerful graphics and game play have been vastly improved. The 2002 version is better than last year’s version as I have just mentioned above. I got this game last year and if you want the exact time of year it was 15th of September 2001 at 12.50 and it was purchased for £19.99 from Woolworth’s and I payed with a £20 note(sorry I am getting obsessed) With an updated database, league tables and player statistics from the previous season. Review of FA Premier League Manager (PC) by TallPaul73

Advantages: Very Addictive, Cheap to Buy
Disadvantages: Sometimes Crashes

The last football management I played (at the original time of writing this) was the original Championship Manager way back in 93. I saw this game in PC World for a tenner and thought I'd give it a go. It's a very good game for its time. Very addictive, very playable and easy to pick up and start playing. You can also play multiplayer which is a bonus. For those of you that have never played a football management sim before, heres the idea behind ...

Are you a Super coach
Review of FA Premier League Manager (PC) by slugman_69

Advantages: Realistic, Challenging, Addictive
Disadvantages: Graphics a bit down on what we would expect from EA Sports

...Well, heres your chance, the Fa Premier League Manager allows you to take the reigns of your favourite club and steer it to Championship glory, and the fame which comes with it, the most realistic mangerial game going around and it really gives you a small insight in what real life coaches have to go through in the real thing. Nothing totally elaborate but yet an informative and easy to navigate opening screen where you can start a new game, it ...

Are you a good football manager
Review of The FA Premier League Football Manager 2000 (PC) by  Skaterboy88

Advantages: 3D matches!
Disadvantages: few teams available to play with.

...The F.A Premier League Manager 2002 is a very good football management game for the PC. The game gives you the option of managing top teams or bottom teams from countries such as England, Scotland, France or Spain BUT only from a few countries! During gameplay you must pick a season objective and complete it with a certain amount of money left. In the game there are many different things to do like improve thje stadium through expansion and maintenance. You can also hire support staff to help with your tasks or sell and buy players from almost every club in the world. When it comes to matches you can watch and give commands with the 3D match or watch highlights or just go straight to the result at the final whistle. The game is up there with the best of management sim but is beaten by the championship manager series as it is... Read review

Fa Premier League Manager 2002
Review of The FA Premier League Football Manager 2000 (PC) by  mentalchic

Advantages: reasonably up to date.
Disadvantages: Can only play as a certain few teams.

...This is one of the most recent manager simulation games. But with football things seem to change daily! In this game you shoose to manage any English, Scottish, and most outher eauropean countries league teams like Bayen Leverkusen or Rangers. The game allows you to adjust the balance of your team the capacity and the strip. In the game you can play single player which means you play with one team or you can play a multi-player game whic means you can play with two or more teams from the same country. The game allows you to transfer list players in your team loan out players and give players a free transfer as well as other teams doing that to their players. At the start of a season you pick a goal for that season and must complete that goal. The game also allows you to watch your team play and tell them what to do. I think the game is... Read review

The greatest management game
Review of Championship Manager Season 99/00 (PC) by  ajwoody

Advantages: Multiple leagues, indepth stats, unofficial data updates
Disadvantages: Need good computer

...This is the greatest football management game. I've played most of the competition (EA Sports FA Premier League Manager, Football World Manager 2000, Premier Manager 99, Football Masters) and none compare to this. Ok you need a good computer to get multiple leagues running but it is by far the most enthralling game around. I can't wait for the next version to come out which will include media coverage as well. Also it has the biggest fan base, meaning that you can get data updates easily of the web. There are plenty of stats and not just one overall skill level which makes other games too easy....
