Having been a fan of FIFA from the early days ive been impressed with how the game has improved in the last 2 additions. Pro Evo had been overtaking FIFA in terms of out and out gamplay, but it seems since 08 and now 09 FIFA has regained the lead for me. As you'd expect the plethora of licensed teams and leagues make this an enjoyable and realist game. Great stadiums including the likes of Old Trafford, Stamford Brdige, The Emirates and the Nou Camp really put you in the thick of the action. I particularly enjoy the challenges mode which adds a great dimension to playing the games and encourages you to play with different nation leagues. Still a great package!
I know that there are still a lot of PS2 owners out there, as the PS3 hasn't really reduced enough in price to attract the part-time gamer. Therefore I think it's good to know that people have still experienced the game on this platform first hand. One thing that you will inevitably get lacking compared to the higher spec versions is the graphics, but I believe that the PS2 is still suitably advanced to provide you with a great gaming experience, and the game does not lack quality in it's looks that's for sure.
In terms of difficulty, that all depends on how you want to play. Naturally if you chose to be Manchester United and tackle a lower league team like Notts County, you are going to find it pretty easy to win. But if you are hoping to cruise to premier league victory in no time at all, think again! FIFA 09's various skill settings, ranging from Amateur all the way through to World Class make this a real long lasting gaming, fun and simple at the lowest levels, whilst the top achievements will take some time to master completely. Then there is the multi-player aspect and these games always come into their own with friends, if you have your mates round for a kick around you can find yourself playing for hours.
The Be-A-Pro setting allows to you take control of one player in a team, and play a whole season building up his stats and attributes, which is a real nice inclusion to the game and has different kinds of challenges than the regular modes. It has been improved upon slightly from it's first appearance in the 2008 version. Fans of that will be pleased to know the seasons have been made more realistic and you can play for upto 5 years if you can make it that far!
My favourite section of the game is the Manager career mode where you have control over contracts and finances and everything about the team. Even sponsorship deals! It's a great aspect of the game, and you can work you way up through the divisions, or go for European glory with some of the top teams! Whatever you chose, this mode will have you coming back for more time and time again.
Having played both FIFA 09 and PES i'd certainly recommend FIFA this year for overall realness and quality of play. Hundreds of game mode options, and players you'll be ultimately very familiar with. A must for all football fans!
