Advantages: Very gruesome and imaginative special effects Disadvantages: It's not very scary
Those of a younger age may remember the Goosebumps book: Why I'm Afraid Of Bees, which told of a boy who gets stuck in the body of a bee after an experiment goes wrong. If, like me, you thought that was scary, you should meet its bigger, nastier brother: David Cronenberg's 1986 Sci-Fi / Horror classic, The Fly.
Jeff Goldblum plays the scientist Seth Brundle, who, along with a pretty funky 80s hairdo, has a teleport machine which could render conventional transport a thing of the past. At a science party (now there's an oxymoron for you) he meets Veronica Quaife, a pretty journalist played by Geena Davis (oh no - her from CutThroat Island!). He takes her back to his laboratory / apartment to show her his huge? telepod, and they come to an agreement whereby Veronica will make a book about his life's work. And they have sex ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of The Fly (DVD)
Advantages: A reasonable score. Disadvantages: Dreadful direction, writing and performances.
It is 1969 and the space race is in full flow. But it isn't just the humans that are determined to land on the moon. There are also three young flies; adventurous Nat, smart IQ and permanently hungry Scooter. Not only is there the ever-present danger of being swatted, but the boys also have to deal with the machinations of Russian spy-fly Poopchev and his henchmen.
This is the first animated movie made specifically for the new 3D technology - and what a disappointment it is. Presumably the makers thought the novelty of the concept would overcome any issues with plotting or overall quality, but they were wrong. The quality ...
Advantages: Looks a bit mad Disadvantages: Doesn't work
her like we always do, and said what a lovely surprise it was, and then left it on the kitchen bench for mum to give away next time the charity donation people came for their regular collection. Mum must have decided to keep this strange little offering however, as a couple of days later I found it had pride of place on our conservatory window sill.
We do get a lot of insects in our conservatory, from spiders, wasps and flies, to beetles and moths, and mum is always complaining and shouting for one of us to "come and get this one ? it's massive". Mum cannot bear to pick up an insect or swat a fly herself and usually our conservatory is full of glasses turned upside down with a little buzzing thing inside, slowly dying of oxygen deprivation, awaiting the return of my dad, my brother or myself, to rescue it and deposit it outside ...
