Fruit Passion Fair Trade Orange Juice

Y'know, these days, less than a third of the money spent by the Murphys on food and household goods goes to a supermarket. Hurrah! Food miles accounted for by this family are way down on the national average. Hurrah again! Gradually, we're whittling it down. Currently, the item under the Murphy Ethical Shopping Spotlight is fruit juice. We drink a lot of it – a glass of orange juice each at breakfast, a glass of apple juice with dinner, and a sports bottle of one or t'other goes with both children to school each day as part of their packed lunch. Although I have a funny phobia about oranges (see my A-Z for details!) it doesn't actually stop me drinking orange juice. And I drink a lot of fruit juice in a day, mainly to try and increase my fruit consumption. I'm still nowhere close to my five portions a day, but I'd like to think I'm getting there. Of course, it's also a very good source of vitamin C, and as I've been lucky enough to avoid getting a cold so far this year, I'm trying to up my intake of that as well. After Molelover's opinion on Fruit Passion Fairtrade Breakfast Juice, hot on her tail, here comes my opinion on the Tropical variety. The carton is fairly distinctive so you can really miss it on the shelf. Fruit Passion written in a blue oval, with the "O" of passion being heart shape showing what a caring and compassionate person you are if you buy it. Then there is a picture of two smiling fruit farmers, with loads of fruit in front of them, with a sign as if they were at a market stall in bold black and white saying "Pure Tropical Juice". I compared the prices of a few juices in Co-op and decided that I would buy the Fruit Passion, Fair Trade brand to try it as it was only 9p more expensive than the one I was going to buy originally. I am glad I did, because I feel better for helping farmers get fair trade prices for their goods and I think the juice id better quality than many others. I have now decided to buy this juice regularly. There is only a small range (orangem apple and tropical) but this fulfils my needs. At £1.09 the product is not hugely expensive and the packaging is attractive, colourful and has a screw top. The ... more
