My Mum used Fairy washing up liquid and I still have a bottle for those odds and ends that need washing by hand, so Fairy is a name I trust. When I saw a new product on the shelves at half price for an introductory offer I bought it! I didn't need it as I had boxes of dishwasher tablets in the cupboard but I can't resist a bargain! Every time I opened the cupboard under the sink I saw the Fairy baby on the front of the re-sealable packet and decided I was going to have to open it and try it out.
~ The Bag~
Mostly green as you expect with Fairy Liquid, my bag has a bright red stripe with ½ price written on it, and the centre has a Fairy bubble with the name FAIRY active bursts for dishwashers. Fairy is manufactured by Proctor and Gamble who are Manufacturers of Soap and Detergents by Appointment to the Queen. There is a picture of the little pouch and the Fairy baby is squirting the sparkling stars from a bottle of Fairy into the pouch! Just like a touch of magic.
~Contents~
The bag contains 30 little pouches about 3.5cm rounded square shape (does that make sense!) The polythene wrapper is not to be removed, or you will lose the magic ingredients! The base appears solid white powder with blue speckles and the top of the pouch has green liquid with an air bubble, so it is quite tactile! I can't resist smoothing my thumb over it before popping into the dishwasher! Silly really, as I could pierce the plastic coating but so far I have been safe. I can't really detect a smell.
~ Instructions~
One concentrated pouch per load. On the back of the bag are pictures giving simple instructions. Place pouch in dispenser drawer and close. Reseal the bag after each use. Do not unwrap or puncture the pouch. There are also some tips. For best results use the dispenser drawer but if the pouch won't fit in, place on top of cutlery basket and select a programme that doesn't have a pre-wash setting.
We live in a soft water area and I no longer use salt, but Fairy Active bursts will work effectively in soft, medium and hard water areas even if the warning light says you need to add salt or rinse aid. But if the water is extremely hard salt would be needed.
The last tip is, handle only with dry hands. Do not let silver touch stainless steel and do not put hand painted china or fine lead crystal in the dishwasher. Common sense instructions really and applicable to any detergent, but a safeguard.
~ Any warnings?~
As with other detergents for the dishwasher this is an irritant and is labelled with the warning to keep out of the reach of children. Advice is given if accidents should happen
~Claims~
It claims to have built in glass protection, and metal shine for sparkling cutlery and other stainless steel items. There is built in salt action and built in rinse aid action. Quite a lot for such a little pouch!
~Results~
My glasses after a months use did look better, as some were getting a bit clouded looking. My cutlery has been in use since my marriage over 37 years ago, and it looks quite good. There have been no spotting marks as did previously happen. I have several pieces of stainless steel including my teapot which I pop into the dishwasher and the results are good. So I can say I am very pleased with the results.
~Cost~
I bought them on an introductory offer at half price, but currently they are on sale in Tesco at £6.78 for a 30 pouch size. This works out at 22.5p a wash at full price, which considering you don't need to buy salt or rinse aid as it is included I think it is really good value.
* I have put Fine as the response to Irritable to the skin? as in the wrapper the contents do not touch your skin.
