I am a married mother of three very active children, I also work full time so I depend very much on my kitchen appliances to ensure clothes and dishes are clean. Generally I have to use my dishwasher every other day, as we are only home for breakfast and evening meals. Over the years I have tried various dishwasher tablets, liquids and powders and wouldn’t say I was committed to any one specific brand, I must admit I usually buy what is on offer in the supermarket. I am much more brand loyal to the washing up liquid I buy and would only buy Fairy Washing Up Liquid so I was very pleased when I happened upon Fairy Active Bursts Lemon on offer in my local supermarket.

The Fairy Active Bursts come in a plastic pouch type bag; the packet is the same green colour that I would associate with Fairy Washing Up Liquid. There is a see through panel on the front of the pouch and you can see the active bursts inside. This is a detergent for the dishwasher but it is not the usual tablet, instead the detergent is a mixture of a powder type substance and a liquid, all contained in a little plastic pocket. The pack I have is lemon therefore the liquid in each pack is yellow, the pockets are little self-contained units and do not have to be opened before being put in the dishwasher, the plastic outer coating dissolves during the wash.

The bumph on the front of the pouch claims that this product is “all in one” and provides:
• Fairy cleaning
• Rinse aid action
• Salt action
• Metal shine
• Glass protection.

The pack I own contains 57 tablets and the pouch is resealable, you are supposed to reseal after each use. When you open the packet you are greeted by a really lemony aroma, very fresh and to me very promising. The packet states there is no mess as you do not have to open the pack you just pop it in the dispenser and close up the machine and let it get to work.

All I can say is this is a product I will not be buying again no matter what sort of an offer it is on. I found it to be completely useless. I have given it a fair go and have used over half the pack but there has been no improvement in performance. I find my dishes are dirtier coming out of the machine than when they went in. Very often when I open the door of the dishwasher I find the detergent pocket has not even dissolved but is a congealed mess sitting on one of the items in the dishwasher. Even when it does dissolve the dishes are still filthy, I end up having to hand wash the dishes. I did try running the cycle again but it made no difference. I generally rinse most of the food off my utensils before putting them in the dishwasher and I don’t do any pots in it so most of the utensils are plates, cups, glasses, cutlery etc that do not have baked on food to be removed.

I thought perhaps it was a problem with my dishwasher so I have descaled and cleaned the dishwasher but still the dishes are not getting properly washed. I have added salt and rinse aid to my dishwasher, even though the Active Bursts are supposed to contain all you need. I have even tried washing the dishes on half load and at the highest temperature settings but again no successful outcome. I think I have given this product a really good chance to show what it does and I am very disappointed with the results, I definitely will not be purchasing these again.

A big disappointment to me from a household name.
