...the company that originally made Fairy in the early 20th century. It has been cleaning the family's clothes for over 100 years.
***What Makes It Special?***
Firstly what is non-biological? This means that it does not contain detergent enzymes which all biological powders do. Obviously Fairy is not the only non-bio out there, but it also has special softening qualities. According to the company this is due to ... ...to admit that when using Fairy I don't really need to add fabric conditioner as the smell and softness is good enough. I still do though, marketing pressure!
The company say that the reason it irritates the skin less than other detergents is due to the fact that it is so soft. It is also allergy tested.

I'm not a snob when it comes to shopping, especially when it comes to household products. Lets face it we are buying this stuff to clean the house and our clothes, it basically is going down the drain. What i save in this area then pays for nicer other things. So going on this basis I will give anything a go once.
I've tried lots of different washing powders and some are good and some aren't but mostly they do the job that they say. I always buy non biological as i find that this does not annoy my precious angels skin (she has reasonably bad eczema).

***What Makes It Special?***
Firstly what is non-biological? This means that it does not contain detergent enzymes which all biological powders do. Obviously Fairy is not the only non-bio out there, but it also has special softening qualities. According to the company this is due to a softening system based on natural ingredients. I have to admit that when using Fairy I don't really need to add fabric conditioner as the smell and softness is good enough. I still do though, marketing pressure!
The company say that the reason it irritates the skin less than other detergents is due to the fact that it is so soft. It is also allergy tested.
***The Packaging***
Well Fairy Washing Powder has had the pretty much the same packaging for as long as I remember. The basic colour is blue with a gold heart with Fairy in it. It has the ever recognisable Fairy baby on it and states 'Huggably softer for sensitive skin'.
There is something about this packet that just makes you feel safe. Is it that it has been around for so long, or the adverts are always talking about how using this will help you family's skin stay softer? I don't know, but I do know that it is one of my favourites.
***The Smell and the Softness***
For me this is the best part. Opening a box and the smell is really strong. It is unlike any other washing powder. It is soapy and fresh and just lovely. When you open the washing machine when finished and the smell is there again, not as strong but it is still there. It is long lasting and even when the clothes have been ironed and in the wardrobe it is still evident.
It isn't overpowering though, it is pleasant and comforting.
The clothes are soft and as I said before this is without fabric conditioner. On the few occasions that I have run out of fabric conditioner when using other powders the towels would not be soft, but with this they are lovely.
***Do They Clean?***
They clean as well if not better than most other washing powders. To be honest I have yet to find a powder that takes ever stain out the first time without first pre-treating some stains. Blackcurrant and tomato sauces especially from pasta shapes and beans are all a nightmare to get out with any powder. And I'm sorry but those powders that say they get 99 stains out just don't work any better than the rest from my experience. So yes, they cope with most things that are thrown at them.
***Product Info***
The powder can be used at all temperature settings which is useful if you like to wash clothes at a 30 degrees wash. Not all powders dissolve at this lower temperature. It can be used right through to 90. They advice that it is not suitable for wool, silk or hand washing.
***Price***
Obviously it varies from shop to shop but at a well know local supermarket these are the current prices.
£5.29 for 45 washes 3.3kg
£2.48 for 15 washes 1.1kg
***My Opinion***
I love this stuff. The smell is just divine. The clothes come out clean and smelling fresh and are lovely and soft. From my experience they seem to irritate the skin less than some others, but then my Daughter still has the occasional flare up what ever I use.
I would recommend this to others even if it might be very slightly more than some other powders. It is just that some things are worth paying that little bit extra for.
Advantages: Great if you suffer from allergic rashes Disadvantages: You must pay a higher price
...you a secret…I have a Fairy in my cupboard! In fact I have two. One is very helpful ensuring my dishes get nice and sparkly, the other is the subject of this review and gets the family’s clothes clean. Both Fairys are from the same family and of course, unless you live on another planet, you know that I am talking about Fairy, the brand name, for washing up liquid and powder (to name but two).
When my son Jack was small (he’s 6 ... ...added expense, I would try Fairy non-biological automatic. It was expensive compared to most powders but after a couple of weeks using it, Jack seemed to stop getting the rash. I was hooked. So what else can I say about it? Hang on…. I’ll go and get the box….
Cor blimey! It’s heavy! To make things as economical as possible I always buy a big box. This one is a whopping 3.3kg that cost me an equally whopping £6 something from ...

Does Fairy washing powder come up to scratch on all these features? Let's find out...
DOES IT CLEAN?
------------------------
In my experience, the answer to this question is yes. Myself and my partner own a Golden Retriever dog that is often covered in slobber, mud and various other smelly and messy concoctions. Invariably they usually end up being transferred onto my clothes by his over-enthusiastic hugs and shakes. He seems ... ...stains at low temperatures.
Fairy washing powder has no trouble removing even the toughest mud and grime, even when I wash at 40 degree temperatures. There is no need to pre-soak as in my experience they have simply come out in a normal wash. I wash my sheets and bedding at a higher temperature, and have found that Fairy works just as well at 60 degrees or higher.
For households with active kids, then this would be a good option as it's stain removal ...

...bought an 800g box of Fairy non biological washing powder as it was on offer for £1.97 at Wilkinsons and thought this was a bargain. I have never used this brand before but as it was on offer and it is a well known brand I thought I would give it a go and if I didn’t like it I could always go back to my usual brand. The normal price for this was £2.97.
The box is light blue with the well known Fairy logo and baby on front. It says a box this size ... ...it does not contain any enzymes and therefore should be better for those with sensitive skin.
There is a metal pull down flap on one side to dispense the powder and upon opening I was greeted with a light fresh smell which I thought would be great on my clothes. The powder itself is fine and white with light blue flecks and the directions suggest using 80ml of powder for a normal load in a soft water area. The amount of powder you need will depend ...

Advantages: kind to skin, pleasent smelling, competitively priced Disadvantages: none
...My mum alway used fairy when we were little but when I moved out and got married I just used whatever was on offer or smelled the nicest. Unfortunately my daughter has reallly bad eczema and after trying several different types discovered that Fairy is the kindest to her skin. It is alway easy to spot on the shelf as it has that trademark turquise colour with the cute little baby on it. The powder itself is white with turquoise flecks and smell really ... ...out as I think that my nose becomes so used to the smell that I cant smell that cotton fresh smell if I uses the powder all the time. Thanks to fairy my kids clothes are always looking fresh and dazzling. That is until they put them on!!! ...

Advantages: readily available at most shops, leaves clothes very soft without having to add conditioners Disadvantages: a bit expensive compared to other brands of non bio available
I had had Fairy recommended to me by several people when they heard we were expecting a baby. Now, that was not my usual brand of washing powder, and having seen a friend's greasy restaurant clothes come out still a bit grease stained after washing with it, I had a bit of trepidation. Still, I figured I would give in to pressure and try a single box. I am glad I did.
It washed the milk and posset stains out of her wash beautifully. It left her baby ... ...result I first saw with Fairy with our friend's wash. I mentioned it one day. Mystery solved- I have a washer with a better wash rating than he has. Mine has an "A" rated wash, his is a cheaper machine and has a "B" rated wash. What a difference! Apparently no matter what he uses, he gets this result, and often gets soap powder residue as well. I was very relieved to find out this was the answer, as I dreaded the thought of one day finding a stain ...

Advantages: Gentle on skin, easy to use, no wastage, smells good Disadvantages: Can be a little more expensive than conventional powders
I have tried many washingpowders, liquids and washing tablets before Fairy Non-Bio Liquitabs, many of which causing my son allergies, dry skin and rashes. I had trouble trying to find something that was kind to my son's 'extra sensitive skin' - until now. It was actually a friend that recommeded Fairy Non-Bio to me.
I often found that powders were messy and impossible to measure accurately. Washingpowder tablets were better but how many times did you lose the net to put them in? and washing liquid often clogged up the draw on my washing machine.
In my opinion Fairy Non-Bio Liquitabs can be a lilttle more expensive that conventional powders but have been well worth the extra. I have found them simple, easy to use and avoid wastage. They have been kind to his skin and leave my washing smelling fresh and clean. ...
Advantages: Gets rid of the stains and cleans well Disadvantages: None yet
I bought this persil non bio at £2.50 in a supermarket just to try it and because i need non bio for my son who suffers with eczema. As you only need to use a capful i did this and when the wash was over it had got the stains from my sons clothes and other bits which was great.
As you only need to use a capful the bottle will last long and i am using this along with my usual fairy non bio washingpowder as i still had some of this powfer left.
I didn't look to see if this was on offer in the supermarket i got it from i just saw that it was £2.50 and wanted to try it just to see if it done what it said on the label which it did. I would probably buy it again to try aswell as the powder as it will last just about the same.
I would recommend this product as it is excellent and it will last a while as it is 2x concentrate aswell ...
Advantages: gentle on delicate skins, keeps eczema under control Disadvantages: doesn't wash well, expensive
When I was pregnant, I received a sample of Fairy Non-Bio washingpowder tablets in a pregnancy pack. I used them to wash the Moses basket bedding only because they were free and went back to my usual detergent, Bold, as I preferred the smell and softness of my clothes. I had always told myself that I wouldn't use Fairy as I felt that it was a gimmick aimed at parents to buy their detergent. That was until my Son developed Atopic Eczema and had to start using it, however I am not impressed with Fairy's cleaning abilities.
At 2 months old, my Son started to get inflamed patches of eczema on his back, chest and head. After using numerous steroid creams from the GP, he was referred to a Dermatologist because his eczema was weeping and irritating him. The Dermatologist appointment took 3 months to come through, so in the meantime ...
