You may have seen from a previous review that I did on the Fake Bake Self Tanning Lotion that I am quite the Fake Bake fan. I have had plenty of experiences with other fake tans of turning all different shades of colour, of patches of fake tan being removed in the rain and of having hands ten times darker than my body, but in my opinion Fake Bake products do not leave you with any of these results.

I first tried Fake Bake because I wanted to try something a little bit more expensive than my previous fake tans since I had to admit the results hadn't exactly been desirable. I hadn't really heard a lot about Fake Bakes itself but when I tested a variety of the fake tans on offer in Harvey Nichols it seemed to be the one that suited me the best.

I first tried the Fake Bake Airbrush Tan which I think was around £25. The thing I love about all the Fake Bake range is that they give a very realistic looking tan, and turn you a far more desirable brown than a tacky orange. Although I really liked the airbrush for the results it gave, it was relatively tricky to use and it took a bit long to dry. I myself am a very impatient person and I often get bored of letting tans etc dry and this is often where problems occur!

So my next purchase was the self tanning lotion. This is a really good product which I really do recommend, however it again can take slightly longer to dry and this frustrated me a little.

Last week I returned to Harvey Nichols with the intention of purchasing Fake Bake Lotion again but a friend I was with said that she generally got better results using fake tan in a mousse form.

Not being one to pass up a friend's advice I decided that there could be no harm in giving the mousse a try and when a tested it on my hand it appeared to have the same dark brown even tan that I experienced with previous Fake Bake products.

The mousse itself is really easy to use and it is dispensed in the perfect amount from the top of the bottle. It spreads easily onto your skin because it is air whipped and it means that it is easier to apply.

The bottle is a golden brown colour with the signature gold writing by Fake Bake so it is hard to miss. Very few retailers seem to stock Fake Bake however so you often have to loo in places like Harvey Nichols, in beauty salons or on the internet.
All the fake tan products come with application gloves which are really useful because they prevent your hands from turning a really dark shade and making it clear that your tan is fake. They also make it easier to rub the mousse in and it means that you can easily get rid of any streaks that appear while applying your tan.

The tan is instant and although the top coat is simply an indicator if I am going out to clubs then I often find that I will put the tan on a couple of hours before I go out because I tend to look an acceptable colour even with the indicator still on. You have to wait about twelve hours before you wash the tan off if you want it to stay so sometimes if you don't want to go out with the top coat still on (which can be quite dark) then you have to apply the tan the night before you go out and wash the indicator off in the morning.

Similar to most of the Fake Bake products, the tan lasts for usually around a week at its best and it is easy to maintain so you don't find yourself turning patchy. You can simply re-apply as necessary or let the tan fade with the help of regular exfoliation, whichever suits you best.

If you like a lighter, more subtle tan then this might not be the best product for you. Although you can apply less of the tan it tends to turn out with less of an even finish if you do so and so generally you are better to use a fair amount at a time. The results are usually quite dark and therefore may not suit paler skin, but I am not sure since I am not generally pale skinned myself so some people may have different experiences.

Fake Bake is quite expensive, I paid £22 for a 118ml bottle of the mousse, however I have looked on the internet and some places such as www.bodysourceonline.com seem to offer a bit more reasonable prices.

If you are looking for a cheap tanning product then this probably isn't for you but if you want a dark, genuine looking tan (and you are prepared to pay a little bit more) then I highly suggest that you give the Fake Bake Self Tanning Mousse a try!
