It advises you to exfoliate and moisturise right before using the tan, to always use gloves when applying, then to allow it to dry for 20 minutes before dressing or going to bed. It continues to advise that during week 2 you exfoliate twice to keep the tan going. I found the instructions helpful and they made me feel a bit better about using the tan.

There is a detailed explanation on the back of the bottle on how to use the tan. It advises you to exfoliate and moisturise right before using the tan, to always use gloves when applying, then to allow it to dry for 20 minutes before dressing or going to bed. It continues to advise that during week 2 you exfoliate twice to keep the tan going. I found the instructions helpful and they made me feel a bit better about using the tan.
Application
I wouldn't necessarily use my usual tan right before bed but I had read this one is better to use before bed as it does leave a colour which can rub off on your clothes. So I had a shower and exfoliated, and applied moisturiser. I had already bought some disposable gloves which I kept on the whole time. The tan is a black colour and when I was rubbing it in it was like rubbing mud into my skin! I made sure I rubbed it in evenly which took quite a while. I also applied it to my face in exactly the same way. I instantly looked really dark and almost a bit grubby looking, but I had read that the colour you see is actually just a colour guide so you can see where you are putting it, and that this doesn't actually represent the end result. The tan smelt really strong but not quite like other ones I have used. It was more like a really strong old woman's perfume, I think this smell was more of a perfume cover up for the real smell though. I found once it had sunk in you couldn't really smell it though.
Results
The next day I got up and had a shower straight away to wash off the guide colour. I had heard not to use harsh soap the day after so I just rinsed it off with clean water. I was quite pleased with the results, the tan was a nice golden colour which certainly didn't look orange. It wasn't at all streaky and looked more natural than other tanning lotions I have tried. The only problem was it wasn't as dark as I had imagined. It looked like I had been sunbathing a bit but I wanted something more extreme. Determined not to give up on it I ended up reapplying it that day and leaving it on for the day. This gave a slightly stronger colour which I was satisfied with. It did say on the back of the bottle that the tan can be reapplied as many times as you like to achieve the desired colour, so maybe this is normal. I applied the tan 2 days ago and the colour is still there and does seem to be staying.
Overall Opinion
I really like the fact that the colour is so natural looking and not orange but I'm not sure if I could be bothered applying a few layers of the tan each time when I can use my usual tan only once (despite the colour not being as natural looking) Also it does take a lot longer to apply which has put me off slightly as I prefer a tan you can quickly apply anytime. Also because of the colour guide it does leave your bed sheets in a mess.

I tried fake bake because I decided I wanted to try something a little bit more expensive than my previous fake tans. I hadn't really heard a lot about it but when I tested a variety of the fake tans on offer in Harvey Nichols fake bake seemed to be the one that suited me the best.
I first tried the ... ...So I was back to fake bake but this time I decided to buy the lotion as opposed to the spray. This was definitely the right decision because I love it. It is far easier to apply and it lasts far longer than the airbrush tan. It was also a couple of pounds cheaper (not a lot but every little helps!) You get application gloves which mean that you are able to prevent your hands from becoming 10 times darker than the rest of your body.

Fake Bake is a tanning lotion which you can apply to your face and body. This is an advantage because you can apply it to your whole body without worrying if your face is pale and your body is tanned!
Application:
My personal advice for best results would be to exfoiliate well (using a exfoiliating glove) on parts such as elbows, neck and upper arms anywhere with dry skin so the tan doesn't go bumpy or uneven. Then moisturize well and after 5-10 ... ...apply fake bake before you go to sleep and then when you wake me up you wash the excess tan off your body. Alike St, Tropez, Fake bake takes around 5-6 hours to develop.
How dark does it tan?
The colouring has never made me orange. The colouring is a lovely realistic deep golden brown tan. When I wanted a darker tan i would re apply fake bake for another night.

SMELL
This self tan does have a strong smell. The smell however does not put me off as I always achieve my desired result. PRICE
The price varies depending on where you buy the product and the bottle size. You can pick this product ... ...your hands WILL stain. Usually, fake bake do provide a pair of gloves with the bottle. The tan will last for roughly 7 days… depending on how often you are in the water and scrub your skin. The lotion will dry within a minute or two which is great if you are in a rush and it doesn't leave you feeling sticky like many lotions do. PRODUCT

...I First noticed fake bake a few months ago and decided to do an internet search on it, Of course being easily swayed by the mention of fake bake having a few celebrity fans who apparently swear by it, i decided to give it a go. The bottle itself is brown in colour and is a lot less garish compared to some fake tan bottle /spray packaging i have seen, which i must admit gave me some confidence! It has a gold stencilled image of a woman on the front ... ...my skin. It looked utterly fake and i had got a more even tan and colour from the 99p tan wipes in the chemist! I feel this product may well suit celebs who have a team to help them out , or maybe the more experienced fake tanner, but take my advice do not risk fake bake! The consistency of the tan is just one of the things that make it incredibly hard to use! My advice is save your money when it comes to this product. ...

Who doesn't love a bit of faketan? You cannot beat that sun-kissed glow! I have tried most faketan products out there and this is my favourite. It is so easy to put on because it is black (but don't worry this is just the colour guide!). It comes with gloves which help you to rub the lotion right in therefore no patches and no streaks! Then in the morning, be prepared for a shock when you are an awful colour (but again don't worry this is just the colour guide which will wash off to leave you looking amazingly tanned!). The great thing about this product is that it does not give you that 'you've been tangoed' glow. It tans based on your skin tone, therefore you will only ever go as brown as you naturally should! I like building the colour up and use it twice or 3 times before a night out, but my paler friend could also use it 3 times ...

Having a whole shelf dedicated to around 20 bottles of different faketan this particular one is one of the best faketans i have ever tried however i have a couple of dry patches of skin on my arms which always turns out the colour of the fakebake in the bottle after its been washed off and no matter how much you exfoliate ur arms and knees they always turn out a much more brown colour therefore making it look unnatural. Another downside is you can't use proper soap/shower gel or it looks really patchy.
i would not recommend using this particular fakebake on your face-it turns out looking like soot! If you only need one use of the fakebake it does look patchy after 2 days and is hard to come off and if u top it up with more fakebake it looks.
Other than that fakebake does make a lovely brown colour and it does not look orange ...

You may have seen from a previous review that I did on the FakeBakeSelfTanningLotion that I am quite the FakeBake fan. I have had plenty of experiences with other faketans of turning all different shades of colour, of patches of faketan being removed in the rain and of having hands ten times darker than my body, but in my opinion FakeBake products do not leave you with any of these results.
I first tried FakeBake because I wanted to try something a little bit more expensive than my previous faketans since I had to admit the results hadn't exactly been desirable. I hadn't really heard a lot about FakeBakes itself but when I tested a variety of the faketans on offer in Harvey Nichols it seemed to be the one that suited me the best.
