Not so much "fallen" but stumbled to this book!

Advantages This is a fun thriller-esque book, that is the perfect read for teens.
Disadvantages Not enough revealed, ready for the book in September.
I have to say, the book that I will now review was bought as it was thought to be a vampire book…….by my husband, so him being the sweetheart he is he got it for me immediately.
After the first few pages though, it became more than apparent that this was going to be completely different to what was first assumed. The book I will now review is - “Fallen by Lauren Kate”.
The story starts with a scene from the mid 30’s, involving a dashing and very scared seeming young man who knows he should leave before “she” finds he trying to bolt, but too late as she finds him and he can’t resist her. After trying to leave (unsuccessfully!), she touches him and he knows she must be his, goes in for the kiss…….then white light and nothingness.
Alongside this fact the shadows that she has been seeing since she was a child have become more than just hallucinations, they seem to want to touch and intimidate Luce at every opportunity.
After being admitted into what can only be deemed as a detention centre/school from hell for deviants, young criminals and the technically insane teenager (many are though aren’t they!), Luce meets someone who she feels she knows, is instantly attracted to, but who is trying there hardest to avoid her, Daniel Grigori. Will she ever work things out with Daniel or will the ever present Cam steal away her heart…..along with other things?!
I know the synopsis is pretty cryptic, but this is how the majority of the book progresses until the last few pages where only a small portion of the background story of many of the characters is explained, though much more should be revealed in the next book, which is out next September! The book and characters are really well written, with the despair and loneliness at being institutionalised and then the utter and unexplainable longing for interaction with Daniel that Luce has, it all seems to veer towards the teenage genre of books, with everything written about being comparable to a teenage angst in some form, this doesn’t detract from the story though.
My mum has always been a fan of thriller type books, this is certainly on par with many of those, there is little sex or even gratuitous violence mentioned, with there even being a murder towards the end of a main character, and even this doesn’t feel particularly gruesome, perhaps this is due to what the characters are eventually revealed as being……though I am not going to do that for you!All the way through the book though, you feel as if you are supposed to know what is happening to Luce, in the same way she feels lost and desperate so did I, but only in the respect of the character, not the quality of the book.
