I have had Fallout 3 for just over a month now and I think that it is absolutly brilliant.
Firstly the graphics are superb and they deliver true realism. The longevity of the game is a major advantage because it will keep you entertained for hours with its realism and graphics.

Fallout 3 begins with your character's literal birth which helps to give the game some originality. In the shelter of Vault 101 and well beyond your eventual escape into the irradiated, postapocalyptic Wild West outside, an excellent mix of narrative addition and player choice is available. Help a townsperson kick his drug habit and you'll earn good karma; feast on the corpses of your enemies in broad daylight, on the other hand, and people might think you're strange. How you deal with the challenges of the Capital Wasteland affects what nonplayer characters will fight by your side, where your early quest-hub town is, and also some details about the game's final chapter. Your decisions all have consequences and affects the rest of the game which makes it replayable and original.

Ultimately it is about the search for your on-the-run scientist dad that compels you forward in Fallout. Like any RPG, character advancement is both a means and an end. While the leveling system in developer Bethesda's previous game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, was built on an arcane combination of attributes, skills, skill perks, specializations, and multiple class templates, Fallout 3's mechanics are far better in many ways. Firstly you choose attribute points at the beginning of the game, and when you gain a level, you earn a certain amount of points to spend on skills (Speech, Lockpick, Energy Weapons, etc.) and one perk of your choice. Whatever path you take, peace and love have no place in the Fallout universe; a whole lot of mutants are going to die eventually. The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.) which allows you to pause time, target specific body parts etc, is fun and works well despite the severed limbs and decapitations served up in gory slow-mo clips.

You can change the difficulty which is a very nice feature as it allows you to tailor the game to your skill level making it universal in difficulty. I do wish however that this game contained multiplayer which is a huge disadvantage but it should not detract you from purchasing this game.

I think that this game is an excellent one and I cannot recommend it enough. It has been rated frequently 9/10 and 10/10 proving its unparalled brilliance. If your still not sure borrow it from a freind or rent it and try it for yourself. I would also recommend looking at gamplay on 'Youtube' to get an insight into what the game is like.

As one review said "No trailer can serve this game justice."

I would however recommend getting the 'Collector's edition' which only costs £10 or so pounds more and you get a really attractive looking metal lunchbox (as featured in the game itself), a bobble head, an artbook (full of fascinating pictures of initial design ideas) and a DVD of 'The making' which is also brilliant.

Thank you for reading!
