Gino D'Acampo is a bit of a celebrity who has cooked on shows like This Morning. He is rather god looking too and fun to watch when he is cooking so I thought his book would be quite entertaining and a fairly easy one to follow. In the inside sleeve he says that, "this book is a way of answering all the questions that people ask him about Italian food. It is a cookbook of modern Italian style and full of effortless but sexy dished."
The book has 10 different food chapters with quite interesting names. They are as follows:
Late breakfast Aperitivi & antipasti Sunshine and salads Pasta, soups & risotto Something fishy Legs and feathers Veg out A bit on the side Sweet things Say it with food
I was actually amazed at how many different types of recipes they are in this book. Sometimes we get a bit stuck when making Italian food and just like I've said above, make spaghetti, lasagne or risotto. There are so many recipes in here with an Italian flare and twist that taste delicious and are easy to make.
For example there is a lovely recipe which uses baked aubergines, another one featuring crispy chicken with gorgeous Italian serrano ham and some really interesting ways to cook up vegetables in a Italian. It's not just all pasta which I love.
With each recipe Gino writes a little about the inspiration behind the recipe such as family or his love of a certain area in Italy and the ingredients that comes from it. The recipes are actually really easy to follow and do not include very many steps. There is nothing worse than a cookbook that has so many directions you get bogged down. I have made a few recipes from this book now and they are flavourful without being fussy and quick to do as well. It's food that the whole family will enjoy. My little girl has had some of the chicken dishes and really like them so I will be making them again.
Theres a nice conversion chart in the back of the book and also a very handy index which lists all the dishes you are looking for. I have the paperback version of the book which was published in 2011 but the book was originally published in 2007. It has an ISBN of 978-1-85626-744-1
