The Worst Witch?
Review of A Hat Full of Sky - Terry Pratchett by Shortsharpshock

Advantages: Intriguing characters, imaginative, wide appeal.
Disadvantages: Makes me wish I had read the prequel.

...she is destined to be a Witch. She can feel it in her bones through her toes into the land, which she calls home. Why can others not see it? She defeated the queen of the fairies single handedly didn't she! Mind you it does not help when your only witnesses are the Nac Mac Feegle, a clan of fairies who were thrown out of fairyland for drinking, fighting and swearing. Something knows she is powerful though. It hunts her down as it has so many before ...
...the magical land of Discworld, a land of witches and wizards who never agree, "A Hat Full of Sky" is billed as a children's novel. However, the concepts and ideas throughout are challenging to readers of all ages and if you suspend your pre-conceived ideas about what should constitute an "adult" book then you will enjoy the read. Themes such as marriage and monarchy are approached in a sardonic yet poignant fashion and indeed there is much merit ... Read review

Eragon Rocks The Fantasy World
Review of Eragon - Christopher Paolini by jedsaint

Advantages: What A BOOK!
Disadvantages: The introduction is a little draggy

Eragon is a masterpeice - A tale Paulini should be incredibly proud of. Not only because it has spun to the forefront of the fantasy world, but because it is, in my opinion, better than most books written. Move over, Potter. Move over... Everyone, make room for this debutante author. Paolini has not only established himself as a yarn-spinner, he has done it in style, with fireworks and such... If you don't believe me, then read for yourself! Then, ...
...fan of any book can recognise what a good read this is. I'm off for another read... I can't wait until the third one is out. If you would like more details about Eragon and the rest of the Inheritance trilogy, visit www.alagaesia.com buy the book.... ... Read review

Precious Potter Pleases!
Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling by jedsaint

Advantages: Great
Disadvantages: ...Perhaps TOO great...

...spellbinding last installment to the Harry Potter series that has left the world breathless, satisfied and in mourning - because there will be no more Potter books to come. If you haven't read this book I'm not giving anything away but the shock-thrill end keeps readers on their toes. This book is something special. Also, in this book it really is noticeable that the Harry Potter books have increased in reading age to keep aligned with the target ... Read review

The Worst books ever!!!!
Review of The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien by anoop_mair

Advantages: The movies made from the books are awesome
Disadvantages: The books are utterly boring

...to write could well be the last words i write because after this I'll probably have to go into hiding. But i thought the lord of the rings trilogy are the most boring books i've EVER read. Okay yeah the concept is great and the movies are probably my favourite movies of all time but the books where so dull i just couldn't finish reading them. I forced myself to finish the fellowship of the ring and I got half way through the two towers and I thought ...
...myself. Give me the films over the books anyday, the movies cut out all the dross and string of bad characters. Seriously guys save yourself hours and hours of talk about landscape and green hills and pretty flowers and silly songs just watch the movies and enjoy it dont touch the books they're no good. ... Harry Potter and the philosophers stone
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by anoop_mair

Advantages: Great childrens book that adults will enjoy as well
Disadvantages: not as dark as the other books

Great Childrens book that you can read over and over again. I actually saw the movie before reading the book and I remember thinking there's no way the book can be as good as the film. But i was pleasantly suprised, the book was very well written, it goes into enough detail without being boring and its got a very light hearted feel to it. I think all kids will be able to identify with this book, as all kids at some stage wish they were wizards ...
...the adventure of starting at a new school and making new friends are all things that children will enjoy reading about. There's enough mystery in the plot to keep first time readers guessing. I enjoyed this book so much after reading it I made sure I always read the books before watching the movies and for me thats saying alot about a book! ... Read review
