Lion of Macedon - READ IT
Review of Lion of Macedon - David Gemmell by
ysith
Advantages: Greek history with a touch of fantasy - Brilliant!!
Disadvantages: Not a single one
to put it simply, exceptional!
I have read, re-read and read again many, many of D. Gemmell's books. All of them have been superb, but this is definateley in the top 5. The thing that really stands out for me is how well the Author has blended history with fanatsy and brought to like quite possibly the greatest era of greek history. The story is formed around the life of Parmeneon, the half-spartan half-macedonian general of King Philip of Macedon, ... ...time. Giving away too much of the story would certainly spoil the book for some, so all I will say is, if you are interested in greek history, buy this book. If you like Heroic Fantasy novels, buy this book, and if you are a Gemmell fan (and somehow has not read this book) buy it, read it, then re-read it. ...

War Comes To Troy
Review of Troy: Shield of Thunder - David Gemmell by
pdoyle007
Advantages: Superb Gripping Story
Disadvantages: The Wait For The Third Novel
Shield of Thunder is the second in the Troy Trilogy being written and released by classic Fantasy writer David Gemmell.
Gemmell has a great history of writing fantasy books and with this series he's brought the idea of swords and sorcery to a famous tale. The action in the Trilogy focuses on the story of the seige of Troy - made famous in Homers 'Illiad'. However Gemmell is clever and does not approach the action in the usual way. Rather than focus ... ...to do he establishes new characters whose fates are uncertain. These new characters intermingle with the more famous historical figures which adds a sense of validity to the story.
This book follows on from the events of 'Lord of the Silver Bow'. The main siege of Troy is still many years away however the various political manouverings are already beginning to take place and alliances and enemies are becoming established. The novel follows two of ...

True love, true lust and true Heroism!
Review of Sword in the Storm - David Gemmell by
VickyVickster
Advantages: beautifully written,engaging,realistic characters
Disadvantages: slightly slow paced
...of a warrior with a sword and shield and a ghostly bear standing by a large knarled tree. Below the picture is the name of the book in plain white bold print and the background colour to all this is a mix of orange, red and black. David Gemmell is one of my all time favourite Authors. He writes what is classed as Heroic fantasy. Basically all his stories involve war, fighting and battles set in fantasy world where high tech is chain mail and a running ... ...always plenty of love, sex, heroes and villains. Any book by David Gemmell is the perfect way to escape in to another world for a few hours. The particular book I am reviewing is called “Sword in the storm” and is book one of the four booked Rigante Series. With David Gemmell I find you do not have to read the series in order because each story stands alone but book one is always a good place to start. Connavar’s Father was killed when he was tiny. ...

Outstanding action/fantasy
Review of Knights of the Dark Renown - David Gemmell by
tabigarasu
Advantages: Intense
Disadvantages: Sad
...coming together to reform the Knights of Gabala-for very different reasons-in order to fight the evil storming the land, across two different worlds. It also explores morality in shades of grey. If you've read Gemmell's work before, this is a must, and one of his best. The magical background to the book is well thought-out and the storyline holds together, including intertwining the prophetic with free-will.
A true Gemmell fantasy. ...

In The Realm Of The Wolf
Review of Waylander II: in the Realm of the Wolf - David Gemmell by
Andy.mack
Advantages: An excellent story, perhaps better than the first
Disadvantages: None
...left his former life as Waylander the slayer behind to be a woodsman and family man. The death of his wife hit him hard but he has continued to look after his two daughters. Some however do not believe he has left his former life behind and want to make sure that Waylander can never rise again. A group of the worlds most deadly assassins are hunting Dakeyras as someone is worried what he may be capable of should he find out what has happened since ... ...The return of Waylander to Gemmell's Drenai series is an incredibly welcome one. I've been slowly working my way through this series and Waylander is quite clearly the best character Gemmell has come up with to date. The character has everything about him that makes an engrossing story. He is in a way an Anti hero as he fights his way through the lands of the Nadir and despite all adversity still seems to be able to rise to any challenge.
If anything ...
