The temperature at which devils are happiest
Review of Fahrenheit 666 - Andrew Harman by
polli
Advantages: Very funny, easy to read
Disadvantages: Hmmm....
...think that would be unjust. Fahrenheit 666 is comic fantasy but that is about where the similarity ends between AH and TP. To say that AH follows a similar style to Terry Pratchett would maybe be taken by some to mean that he was a TP wannabe, hoping to cash in on TP’s success with this particular genre. This is in no way the case. Andrew Harman loves to play on words and make a mockery out of society and everyday things. He does this very ... ...in them! Fahrenheit 666:
This was the first book of Andrew Harman’s I read. This book jumps between Helian (Hell) and Cranachan (on the surface). At the start of the story you are introduced to Nabob, a demon living in the city of Tumor who is sick of his job in the Sinful Service and is standing to be elected as Undertaker-in-Chief of Mortropolis. He enlists the help of Flagit, a demon working for the Transcendental Travel Company (specialising ...

Brilliant tales of an incredible character.
Review of First Chronicles of Druss the Legend - David Gemmell by
Antnic78
Advantages: Engaging story of revenge and Heroism
Disadvantages: Relates to 'Legend' and should be read after.
...those who have read Gemell's first book 'Legend' would surely agree. The book follows Druss' journey from a seventeen year old woodsman to the ferocious and uncompromising warrior he becomes in his search for his wife Rowena, abducted by raiders. The book is completely engaging with frequent action and battles throughout. The stories within the book give a background to Druss and develop the character even more from the immense sixty year old warrior ...

You'd be a fool to not read
Review of Fool Moon - Jim Butcher by
super-t
Advantages: Simply, its an amazing book.
Disadvantages: None
Fool Moon starts a few months after the end of the first book, Storm Front. Harry Dresden is called in on a murder case by his friend Lieutenant Karrin Murphy of the Special Investigation Unit of Chicago P.D.
Realising that the murders are related to a super-natural being, namely were-wolves, he puts his quick-thinking mind into finding the culprit. However, though there are suspects a-plenty (how many were-wolves can Chicago have?) none are disqualified ... ...book is all the better for it.
Like the first book, this is written in 1st person, and you get Dresdens quick wit and humourous insights along with his feelings and thoughts. In this book, you get a more indepth view of Murphy, and how she thinks and Dresden shows he is human by showing deep feelings of regret, compassion and guilt. The novel seems to be slightly moralistic in the way that Dresden has to decide between helping his friend, or telling ...

One of the greatest books of all time
Review of Magician - Raymond E. Feist by
molebert
Advantages: Well Written, Empathetic characters, Epic storyline
Disadvantages: Long, slow build up
This book easily ranks among the greatest fantasy books of all time, and as a testiment to this, I have already read this book at least five times already, with plans to do so again in the not to distant future.
The easy writing style used by Raymond E. Feist not only transports you into the twin worlds of Kelewan and Midkemia, but grabs and maintains your interest throughout what is an epic story. I found I connected and empathised easily with ... ...characters were well defined and written. The world created within these pages is well defined and described, and even though it follows many generic fantasy stereotypes, the characters, story and depth of information combine to exceed the generic fare offered by many within this genre.
Although Raymond E. Feist wrote several sequels and prequels, and although some are quite good, this book should always be considered the best of them. ...

midpikyrozziy
Advantages: Beautifully imaginative, adventurous, fast-paced tale
Disadvantages: That it has to end at Book 7!
