Lord Of The Rings the first, book one

Advantages: once you get the boring stuff out of the way, the book is good
Disadvantages: too much description

...am going to talk about the very first lord of the rings book, The fellowship of the ring part one. This book, has a great deal of adventure in, and doesn't lack in description. If anyone has read this book, im sure they would agree that this book may have a bit tooo much description in. Description is good, but when you get too explaining every blade of grass to the last detail you may get bored. Even though i wanted to quit reading it so bad, i ...
...loads of interesting characters on the way including, Tom who is like the god of all land, sea and sky in the area were he lives. And tom one day stumbles across the poor hobbits in a spot of bother and helps them out. You also come across the great Gandalf the Grey. You don't see much of him in this book, but what you dont realise is that he has been very close all along. And finally you meet the enemy, the black riders. Lifeless riders who rule ...

...prepares you for Lord of the Rings. It is still a little bit like a fairytale story but with the great detailing in history of characters and languages, which is one of Tolkiens gifts of combining description and historical facts in a very enjoyable way. I read this book so many times and every time i like it more and i find something new in it.If you know someone , who have not read any of Tolkiens books, this is the present that yoiu shoul give ...

Tolkien's Unfinished Tales

Advantages: Adds to The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit, beautifully written
Disadvantages: Not all tales are completely finished, fairly weighty read.

**Summary Review of Unfinished Tales** Unfinished Tales at a Glance (A.K.A. Why Should You Read U.T.): 1. U.T. fills in details and background for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. 2. U.T. Is a fantasic example of classical fantasy literature and mythology. 3. It is very moving and well written. The language is brilliant! 4. U.T. stories are very compelling and intense. 5. It’s Tolkien. Unfinished Tales on the Shelf (A.K.A. Why You ...
...**Full Review of Unfinished Tales** Unfinished Tales is an excellent addition to the family of published Tolkien books, and that Christopher Tolkien did quite a good job in the editing of this particular volume. C. Tolkien basically left all the “stories” in Unfinished Tales as J.R.R. Tolkien had written them. As the name Unfinished Tales suggests, these were not completely finished at the time Tolkien passed away. That means that some of them don’t ...

For Tolkien fans only

Advantages: Great high adventure atmosphere
Disadvantages: Too solemn and tragic

I audio-read Silmarillion the last week-end (my girlfriend kept talking about it, so I gave it a chance). I had read LOTR a while ago and had enjoyed it although "The Hobbit" remains my favorite. As for this collection of "tales", it's a bit stuffy and too ceremonial in tone for my taste, especially the first stories, those about the creation of the world and the Valar and all that. I guess I liked the stories where I recognized things that were ...
...Gondolin and some others. But the book is full of the stuffiness that Tolkien displays quite often in LOTR, especially in the third volume, with all those farewell ceremonies and glorious speeches ad poems. After audio-reading this, I really miss the funny, fairy-like tone of "The Hobbit" so I guess I'll be reading that again. So, for "experts" who want to know everything about the Middle-Earth universe, this is a must-buy, but if you're more action-oriented ...

A beautiful piece of poetry by Tolkein with accompanying artwork

Advantages: The poetry and tolkeins use of language
Disadvantages: A little bit obscure unless your a LOTR fan

Bilbo's last song is really the very final part of the lord of the rings, its the final song by Bilbo as he leaves middle earth and journeys to the Grey Havens with the elves. Tolkein wrote this as a piece of poetry which he gave to a secretary and it was eventually put together with some artwork by Pauline Baynes and published after Tolkwins death in 1980. This book is really a set of drawings with accompanying texts, it is a short tect really ...
...Bilbo philosophises about his life as a common hobbit and how he net the dwarves and Gandalf. The poem could be a sad one full of regre about leaving the Shire, and his life in Rivendell but its a song of joy about the life he's lived, the people he's met and all the years living with elves has clearly rubbed off and the poetry is stirring and moving. Tolkein wrote the poem intending to put in as Bilbo left to the Grey Havens at the end of the novel ...
