Lord Of The Rings the first, book one
Advantages: once you get the boring stuff out of the way, the book is good Disadvantages: too much description
...am going to talk about the very first lord of the rings book, The fellowship of the ring part one. This book, has a great deal of adventure in, and doesn't lack in description. If anyone has read this book, im sure they would agree that this book may have a bit tooo much description in. Description is good, but when you get too explaining every blade of grass to the last detail you may get bored. Even though i wanted to quit reading it so bad, i ... ...loads of interesting characters on the way including, Tom who is like the god of all land, sea and sky in the area were he lives. And tom one day stumbles across the poor hobbits in a spot of bother and helps them out. You also come across the great Gandalf the Grey. You don't see much of him in this book, but what you dont realise is that he has been very close all along.
And finally you meet the enemy, the black riders. Lifeless riders who rule ...

Masterfully Magic - The Colour of Magic
Advantages: Magical characters, great story, great humour Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...my personal opinion, one of the finest writers out there. The fact that the Discworld series is still going strong after so many releases shows just how magical, interesting and in depth a universe Pratchett has created. And Colour of Magic has to be the best introduction into this amazing world there can be.
The main plot of the story is that of a traveller named Twoflower, the first tourist the Discworld has seen, and his wonderfully many legged, ... ...to the magnificent, yet not so endearing, city of Ankh-Morpork where they meet our next protagonist, Rincewind. As one of the most incompetent ‘wizzards’ to ever come out of the Unseen University, Rincewind is quickly swept up in the raucous created around the time of Twoflower’s arrival and ultimately becomes the tourist’s unwitting tour guide, a position he attempts to lose at every opportunity throughout the book.
As the first of the series Pratchett ...

Best book ever
Advantages: Adventures and fun Disadvantages: None
...prepares you for Lord of the Rings.
It is still a little bit like a fairytale story but with the great detailing in history of characters and languages, which is one of Tolkiens gifts of combining description and historical facts in a very enjoyable way. I read this book so many times and every time i like it more and i find something new in it.If you know someone , who have not read any of Tolkiens books, this is the present that yoiu shoul give ...

Review of The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
Advantages: OK as a singular stand alone story Disadvantages: Not enough involvement of my favourite character, Death
...ex-work mate who lent me The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic and Equal Rites and I read the whole three in about one week flat. The Light Fantastic itself didnt, for me anyway, and still doesnt, stand out as one of the best in the Discworld series but then perhaps as I've read all the books as the Discworld itself evolved in time the author gets better at writing this parallel universe and that in itself can make the earlier books not look so ...

A refreshing slant on the classic fantasy/magic orphan novel
Advantages: An interesting angle on the classic orphan magician/fantasy novel Disadvantages: Might be more for children but a good read never the less
...which is always locked in the early middle ages in Europe, usually an early technology age with no gunpowder, usually the story centres around a young child who somewhere near the start of the novel discovers a strange power which then is placed under the tutelage of a mage or wizard etc etc. This book very firmly follows these prinicples, the main character is a young girl called sonea who lives in the slums of a city called Imardin, Imardin is ... ...Sonea throws a rock at the magicians and penetrates the magicians defences hitting one of the magicians and cuasing the wall to collapse. Sonea then escapes and the rest of the book is a tale of her hiding from the evil magicians in the cities underworld, catacombs, warrens whatever you want to call them. As with standard fantasy, Sonea soon develops her powers and after a few mistakes starts to become more powerful, the magicians are the ones who ...
