Terry Pratchett's The Wyrd Sisters
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
mummy25bear
Advantages: Excellent Read
Disadvantages: Not being able to put it down
An amusing novel one of Terry Pratchett's best, or so I think.
Pratchett unlike other aurthors has chosen to take certain scenes of the famous play Macbeth by Shakespear but instead has taken the view of the three witiches. Many people say it is a re write of the play but I disagree. You can see the observation of our modern world in his Discworld fanasy series which i think just brings the homour to life
The king is murdered and the Duke has taken ... ...seems to be the brains behind the deed
Three witches are caught up in the dastardly plans and doings of the Duke and the witches are left to ponder whether to meedle with the poitics of it or not, Granny weatherwax being the "leader of the group is not so sure that meddling is a good thing but is forced to dicide when the rightful heir (Kings child) is accidently left with the witches by a terrified knight who left the baby while running away. Everyone loves a happy ending... don't they?
Review of Witches Abroad - Terry Pratchett by
CaptainDisaster
Advantages: Very funny, great characters, great story
Disadvantages: Gets a little baudy in places
...by wicked witches? The good witches have to go and stop it happening, of course!! Well actually there's a lot more to it than that, but there you have the basic plot. When someone's Fairy Godmother dies, she entrusts her job to none other than Magrat, a young witch who is almost by her own admission a "wet hen". She tries desperately hard not to be, but there you are - that's what she is. The recently deceased Fairy Godmother, Desderita, wants two ... ...that's the key… Witches Abroad is a fairytale with a difference - well, with a lot of differences. Normally, the idea is not to stop the girl from marrying the handsome prince. This is only one of many twists put on the traditional fairy tale storyline and they all work. The witches, who in other Discworld books I've read really haven't grabbed me as interesting or amusing characters, really come into their own here. Mainly it's the interplay between ...

The Wit and Wisdom - Very Entertaining
Review of The Wit and Wisdom of Discworld - Terry Pratchett by
ashman2
Advantages: 90% of the quotes are brilliant
Disadvantages: 10% of the quotes aren't brilliant
...brilliant list of quotes from the many Discworld books written by quite possibly the best writer of the last 100 years.
I've only given the book a 4/5 because not all of the quotes are brilliant, that said, I've been told off during at least three lectures for laughing almost uncontrollably at parts of the book, and some people have thought that I'm mad when I burst out laughing on the train on the way home.
Pratchett provides a nice break from ... ...The book of Quotes allows you just to dip into discworld whenever you feel like it. I have in fact read the quotes section for particular books shortly before reading the corresponding book.
I recommend this book to any avid discworld fan, and also possibly to non-discworld fans, because it provides you with a taster of the institution that is Discworld. ...
