What was my first play of it like? Well, my computer had 256MB of RAM at the time. What does this mean? Basically, it was very “laggish”, even on the lowest settings. This didn’t stop me though. I gave it time to load as I proceeded through the demo mission and was very glad I had heard about this game. I had to get it, so I ordered a copy. I also upgraded my computer, doubling its RAM and getting a new graphics card while I was at it (which was lucky, as I needed it!).
Christmas Day – It’s here! Bye all, off to the PC! ;)
When I started playing the finished version, I was truly amazed. Aside from a few graphical glitches that were quickly fixed with the help of the Ubisoft support website (blue sand, grass and sea isn’t a great thing), this game was graphically brilliant. The lighting effects, the appearance of the sea, the vegetation were great. The human characters were (by appearance) believable.
I will recommend that you download the Version 1.3 update as this will improve various areas and fixes some bugs. The issues that will be fixed aren't anything huge (for example, the upgrade will cause the enemy's alert 'status'), but it does add to the overall feel to the game.
WEAPONS
You can tell that the development team have spent a good amount of time on perfecting the weapons. They sound real, they look real and they fire like the real deal. The weapons list is as follows:
Machete – Basically, a big knife. Falcon 357 – A huge calibre semi-automatic handgun. A really useful tool. Good accuracy. Short range. P90 SMG – A modern Sub-machine-gun. Has a high rate of fire and is light. Above average accuracy. Short-mid range. MP5 SMG – Another Sub-machine gun, with an attached suppressor. Again, a high rate of fire. Only really suitable for indoor locations due to its poor accuracy. Short-mid range. M4 Assault Weapon – Your standard assault rifle. Another great weapon. Good rate of fire and reasonable accuracy. Medium range. AG36 – Assault rifle with a grenade launcher. A good weapon, although occasionally hard to aim. Reasonable accuracy. Long range. OICW Assault Weapon – Advanced assault rifle. Has an integrated score and high explosive munitions. Best for open terrain. Mid-long range. Jackhammer Shotgun – Semi-automatic shotgun which is useful in indoor locations. Good accuracy. Short range. Sniper Rifle – Brilliant sniper rifle with an optical scope. Long range combat only. Machinegun – An Infantry assault machine gun with a huge rate of fire. Poor accuracy. Good range. Rocket Launcher – Slow, heavy weapon. Huge damage to vehicles and people. Long range. Hand Grenade – Standard frag-grenade. Flashbang Grenade – Also known as “Stun Grenade”, gives a loud noise and bright flash effect that stuns anybody nearby – including you if you’re looking in its direction. Smoke Grenade – Provides cover for you to move in.
OTHER WEAPONS
Mortar – Extreme range with extreme damage. Don’t get on the wrong side of one of these. Vulcan Minigun – A huge rate of fire with mid-long range. Useful for killing everybody in sight.
EQUIPMENT
Your equipment is extremely useful.
Binoculars - Not for star-gazing, these binoculars are the most useful item in your inventory. A fitted motion tracker allows you to find and track enemies in the dense jungle, while the directional microphone allows you to locate enemies in any location. Useful for checking doors before going through them. Flashlight – Used to light up darkened areas, this torch has an unlimited battery life. CryVision Goggles – Night-vision goggles, these goggles are useful in areas of low light. Battery life is limited but the batteries recharge themselves. Detonation Pack – Great for blowing up stuff. Health – Restores your health. Found in either large or small sizes. Throwable Rock – Although listed as a weapon, these do no damage. Useful for distracting the enemy but can blow your cover.
VEHICLES
Vehicles are average. They are a welcome sight in the middle of a fire-fight and boats are great, but some of the land vehicles don’t always come up to scratch.
Inflatable Boat – Quiet and tough. Good handling. Patrol Boat – Faster and tougher than the Inflatable Boat, this is your best water-bound vehicle. A mounted machine gun (and occasionally, rocket launcher) provides more than suitable fire-power. Buggy – Light and fast, but does feel slightly delicate. Can cross most terrain and has a mounted machine-gun. 4WD Vehicle – Much more of a nicer vehicle to drive than the Buggy, mainly due to its strength and power. Comes with a mounted machine-gun and rocket launcher as standard. Utility Truck – Not of any great use, this truck is quite slow and has no offensive items. Forklift – As per Utility Truck…but funnier. Hang Glider – Used occasionally by Jack, useful for getting across a lot of ground in very little time. The only way is….down!
OTHER VEHICLES
These vehicles aren’t used by Jack. They tend to bring more troops to the area and, therefore, should not be considered with a light heart.
Cargo Chopper – A large, twin rotor chopper used for troop insertion. Other than the troops, not a huge danger. Helicopter Gunship – “Fast attack chopper” says it all. May come with extra troops, but normally with only one guy and a machine gun, this mean machine will hunt you down and shred you, given the chance. Aim for the machine-gunner whilst staying hidden or just lay low for ten odd minutes.
GAMEPLAY
The missions are non-linear, for the most part. This gives you the opportunity to complete a mission as you see fit, be this going around the edge quietly or straight through the middle, all guns blazing. Indoor-set missions are more linear, but quite often, more challenging too.
You will need to use all of your equipment, weapons and senses to make it through the challenging missions. As you progress through the game, the missions become more difficult. I found myself attempting some sections several times before completing them.
The game is saved as you progress through a mission as a series of checkpoints. This can be a bad thing at times, but I prefer it as it adds to the challenge to the game.
Due to the non-linearity of the game, there are several repeated plays here where you can try a level via a different route or using different methods to get past a point.
OVERALL
At £14.99, this game is definitely worth every pound and if you don’t have a copy yet, I’d very much recommend that you get one soon (provided your computer is up-to-scratch).
Advantages: Cutting-edge 3D graphics engine. Exhilarating action set pieces. Interesting assortment of weapons and vehicles. Disadvantages: Frustratingly easy to get killed, especially for a 3D shooter. Steep hardware requirements
...to play, there's something about Far Cry that doesn't quite gel. On a superficial level, the game has all the ingredients of a classic 3D action/adventure offering: exotic firepower, decent AI (artificial intelligence) and creative level design. But for every positive, there seems to be a negative: cheesy dialogue, the autosave system, an unforgiving damage model and steep hardware requirements. Don't get me wrong, Far Cry is still a good game. It ...

Far Cry is not particularly innovative in introducing new features to the FPS genre. However, it does take features from other games and integrates them into the gameplay very well. There are features and elements from games such as Deus Ex (multiple paths through the game), Half-life (a few features/plot devices), Thief (a stealth-ometer) and other FPSs. You'll also be able to drive a few vehicles, scale ladders ...

FarCry 2
Xbox 360
This is a sequel to the, in my opinion, excellent, FPS game FarCry.
You start the game by choosing from a list of characters, each with there own 'perks', and then you are set free on a is st open world to search for and kill a man known as 'The Jackyl'.
The Jackyl is a arms dealer who provides the 2 war-ing factions in Africa with all the weapons they need, and in turns is turning the country into a warzone.
To find him, you must complete missions from both of the Factions until you are playing them off against each other and recieve intel on where the jackal is.
I was a huge fan of the original FarCry game on the PC, and also really liked FarCry Instincts Predator on the Xbox 360. So when I heard this game was being released I couldn't wait to play it. In a way I was slightly dissapointed with that ...

FarCry 2.
I bought this game for the Xbox 260 after having played the first installment of the game, FarCry, on the PC and being very impressed. However, I feel this latest offering is somewhat of a disspointment. It cost me £29.99 from play.com in October 2008.
The story of the game is you are out to kill "The Jackal" who is a serial arms dealer who you have had dealings with in the past. To get to him you must steadily build up contacts, unlock new parts of the map, and traverse across a literally endless landscape, which in itself is beautiful and partly makes up for the poor gameplay.
The graphics in general with this game are extaordinary; the beautiful, lush, African landscapes seem to roll on forever, and change rapidly and blend into one another seemlessly. The buildings, people and vehicles are also beautifully made ...
There isn't a lack of first-person shoot 'em-ups for the PC, but Far Cry looks like it could well be up there with the best of them. It's got a lot of competition of course, from the likes of Doom III and Half-Life 2, but Far Cry has got something they haven't: brains. Although the graphics in Far Cry are some of the best ever seen, with amazing island vistas that look straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean, the most impressive technical achievement is the artificial intelligence of its bad guys. Enemies in most games seem to have the attention span of a goldfish and rarely seem to be able to see or hear more than a foot in front of their faces. This is not the case in Far Cry, although when you've been chased by a gang of professional bounty hunters through a rusty World War II aircraft carrier and back again, you might begin to wish they were still deaf and dumb. For pretty much the first time Far Cry makes you feel as if you are fighting against a real foe, with real intelligence. And if that's not enough to impress there's the aforementioned amazing graphics, seven different vehicles to pilot (including a hand glider), tons of different weapons and really realistic looking bushes. That last may not sound that impressive, but the game's recreation of a real jungle environment is quite outstanding and the real icing on the cake of this top-notch shooter. --David Jenkins A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels. Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amid the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive by. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become. Jack encounters an insider within the militia group who reveals the horrific details of the mercenaries' true intentions. He presents Jack with an unsettling choice: battle the deadliest mercenaries or condemn the human race to a maniac's insidious agenda.
