Introduction:

To be totally honest I can not tell you much about the storyline, game play and features of this game as I never got very far at all in the game. The reason for this, and possibly loads of people who had the misfortune of buying this game, realised how slow it was.
After installing a mega 3 GHz of data on to my machine I begin to boot up the game. The title screen of this game is more than impressing as in the background you weave in and out of palm trees on a tropical island. Followed by an also very impressing starting video were you are blown of your boat in tropical waters.
Now I was ready to start playing and this is where the disappointment began.

A control, game play and features:

Being a normal FPS (first person shooter) the controls are basic and normal. W, A, S, D keys for movement, the mouse to click and shoot and space bar the jump. If these basic controls don’t float your boat, like most games you can configure them to your liking. The game play seemed very simple from the small amount I played, there were no complicated buttons and they are typical of most games of this genre. I never got to use most of the features this game had to offer but I did notice you could blow away terrain with explosive weapons like grenades. There were also vehicles that you commandeer and there was a huge draw distance (viewing distance)

Where the game didn’t meet up to standards:

When u start of you find your self in like an underground tunnel system with hints of this tropical island seeping through cracks and holes. When you are a gamer like me all you want to do is kill people which quite a lot of people will buy this game for. As you will soon realised the game was plastered in cut scenes resulting in a boring typical shoot them up gone RPG (role playing game)

Okay this section of my review is to any one who is considering buying this game.
The system requirements of this game seem to be ridiculously high, this is were the game flops.

(Out of game reed me)

Minimum System Requirements Single Player Only

- Computer: AMD Athlon 1 GHz or Pentium III 1 Ghz (AMD Athlon XP 2000 / Pentium 4 2 GHz recommended)
- Operating System: FarCry is supported on the following operating systems: Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
- Memory: The game requires 256 MB of RAM.
- Controls: A keyboard and mouse are required
- Drives: 4 Gb of free space on hard disc are required to install and play the game. 4x DVD or 16x CDROM is required to install the game.
- Video: A 3D accelerator video card with support for DirectX® 9.0b and at least 64 MB of video memory is required.
- Sound: A DirectX®-compatible 16-bit PCI sound card is recommended.

For Multiplayer play only the following configurations are supported

Recommended System Requirements

- Computer: A 2 GHz AMD processor or better is recommended.
- Memory: We recommend 512 MB of RAM
- Drives: 4 Gb of free space on hard disc are required to install and play the game. 8x DVD or 32x CDROM is recommended to install the game.
- Video: A 3D accelerator video card with support for DirectX® 9.0b and at least 128 MB of video memory is recommended
- Multiplayer Connectivity: Access to UBI.com online gaming service, requires a low-latency, active Internet connection, rated at 64 Kbps upstream or faster. Multiplayer games played over a LAN require an active connection to a TCP/IP network. We recommend the use of cable or ADSL connection with 512 Kb/s in downstream and 128 kb/s in upstream.

High System Requirements

- Computer: A 3 GHz AMD processor or better is recommended.
- Memory: We recommend 1024 MB of RAM
- Drives: 4 Gb of free space on hard disc are required to install and play the game. 16x DVD or 32x CDROM is recommended to install the game.
- Video: A 3D accelerator video card with support for DirectX® 9.0b and at least 128 MB of video memory is recommended
- Multiplayer Connectivity: We recommend the use of cable or ADSL connection with 512 Kb/s in downstream and 128 kb/s in upstream.

Multiplayer Server Requirements

Dedicated Server
- Computer: A 2.4 GHz AMD processor or better is recommended.
- Memory: We recommend 512 MB of RAM
- Drives: 4 Gb of free space on hard disc are required to install and play the game. 16x DVD or 32x CDROM is recommended to install the game.
- Multiplayer Connectivity: We recommend the use of cable or ADSL connection with 512 Kb/s in downstream and 128 kb/s in upstream.
Non Dedicated Server:
Computer: A 2.8 Ghz AMD processor is recommended
Memory: We recommend 1 Gb of RAM, however we do not recommend connecting many players to a non-dedicated server.

As you can see these are very high though most machines will meet the minimum requirement (which mine does). Yet mine plays it on the lowest the graphical features can get but still it has long loading times and very poor graphics. If you were going to buy this game I would recommend you have at least a GHZ processor at least 512mb of ram and a top notch graphics card to top it of.

Miscellaneous stuff:
As you can see Far Cry is on a DVD which the gaming industry, consider to be the next step forward. This is because more information and features can be added into a game with all that extra space. So if you do buy Far Cry get a DVD-ROM drive (about £20).
Far Cry will run on the minimum system requirements but you will have low frames per seconds and the quality will be rock bottom. Also you will find it will lag significantly in vehicles which is a vital part of the game.
On a more positive side of the game, I have seen some screen shorts of this game on a fast computer and it looks amazing. There are clear crisp images, the water effects look astonishingly real, so if you have a top end PC and want to test it out this is the game to buy. And if you aren’t happy you can always take it back. You should be able to get the game for £29.99 at any appropriate shops or sites.

Lots of info on the specifications, it would be good to hear a little more about the actual game presuming people have a computer up-to-spec. Nice layout though. x

I hate games that will only play on ridiculously expensive computers. All part of the conspiracy to hit our credit cards, if you ask me. I'd not buy it on principle!

Sounds like one to avoid if its slow - would drive me potty.
